Labour...

Just found this:

http://www.labour.org.uk/top_50_achievements

It's a list of their top 50 achievements in the last 11 years.

For example:

1) Longest sustained low inflation rate since the 60s.
Of course.. it forgets to mention it's a BIASED inflation rate... afterall.. this is politics

9) Employment is at it's highest point ever
I thought the opposite was true... or has this changed since I last checked it? I thought we were running at 40% or some other obscene figure.... Unless of course, that is now "low" unemployment rates?

14) Devolved power to the Scottish Parliament
15) Devolved power to the Welsh Assembly
So that they can vote on our matters, influencing our lives whilst they live away from the majority of these changes... but the reverse isn't always true.

17. NHS Direct offering free conveninent patient advice
So you get advised to join the unconvient 6 month waiting list? Hmm... I see a slight problem there!

29. A million pensioners lifted out of poverty
30. 600,000 children lifted out of relative poverty
Presuming they dictate this "poverty..." Of course, they neglect to mention that civil workers get to become pensioners earlier due to "health problems" then miraculously recover.. However, full marks to them for this. Well done. You lifted some people out of poverty

31. Introduced child tax credit, giving more money to parents
Of course, brilliant! Not done anything along the lines of ensuring the parents with more than one child get a different band of requirements to gain other free benefits they offer for parents... I don't get the educational allowance thing because my parents are over the limit... but have 4 kids

35. Banned Fox Hunting
Neglecting to mention that the amount of people supporting fox hunting is steadlily decreasing, as 6 months ago 62% of people wanted it, and now it's only 51%... Well done them. Something that people are actually agreeing with. I find THIS one something to agree with!

50. Free fruit for most four-to-six year olds at school
And a lecture about how eating curry means you're not a racist... and not eating it makes you a racist and worthy of a lecture as to why you SHOULD eat it

I do like finding these little things.. they cheer me up when I'm down... now to find the conservative one from when they were last in power No offense meant to any Labour supporters or whatnot.. I just thought that it might be an interesting read for those that aren't sure what Labour believes are the highlights of the last 11 years!

well number 1 is going to be very hard to even begin to claim in 12 months, no matter how you try to redefine inflation!

Re: Labour...

Labour is gone lets be honest. I hate politics and they make it boring. But the truth is thats there is no party out at the minute i would like to see voted in. I think people in general have become disallusioned with politics in this country. They find them dishonest and untrustworthy. And mroe still they put every politician in teh same boat.

Its about time a party came out for the people. And actually followed it through.< instead of lying and covering everything up. They would just be up front with the people.

Thats all i want. An honest party.

Re: Labour...

WOW, ten years of Government and 4-6 year olds get free fruit.....now that IS an achievement!!.

Is there also a website of their top 5000 underachievements, since being in power so long, or has that gone the same way as the Truth with this Government......nice thing to have, but wouldn't want it to get in the way of a "good story"!!.......shameful Government, and shameful voters for putting them there for a third term........will you never learn?!!

This is what everyone wants. Fact is, any party that may exist like this would probably never get voted in. People don't want change . . . they just want someone to take the blame.

Have to disagree, people DO want change, it's just that there are so many differing requirements for change, that the Government don't know which one to choose to gain the most votes

Re: Labour...

Aye, Labour are dead in the water. The Tories have found themselves electable, christ knows how, and David Cameron would crush Brown into the floor if a general election were held now.

Apart from a slight blip with bungling Borris and his deputy, its been Labour disaster after Labour disaster since Lord Tony was taken from us to go to a better place.

And Gordon has just been caught red handed misleading the Commons over his statement that 'most' people would be better off under new tax situations due to come in in 2010, when its actually like 18% of peeps who will be better off.

Its the 10p tax situation on wheels, apparently.

As Ingrid Bettencourt might have put it, Labour can FARC off.

Re: Labour...

The way I see it, most change brought about by politicians 'for the good of the people' involves introducing unpopular measures - i.e. everyone wants a better health service, but nobody wants to pay more tax. Everyone wants a better environment but nobody wants to stop using their car. So whoever gets elected, regardless of their rhetoric, will eventually become unpopular and get voted out. My present view is that since we've seen both the Tories and Labour screw things up, perhaps we should let the Lib Dems have a go next time - at least Vince Cable seems to have a better understanding of the current problems with the economy than most other politicians!

Re: Labour...

There is, and has not, for some time, been a credible opposition. I reckon if there were a general election now, the Tories would win, but only on the basis that Labour is very unpopular due to constantly making (IMO) stupid decisions, statements and policies, not the fact that they have any better policies.

A lack of a credible opposition is bad for everyone. It's analogous to the whole ATI/nVidia thing in the tech world. nVidia was so far ahead, they just haven't been bothered.

Re: Labour...

Labour are at the moment very unpopular and loosing voters left, right and centre due to the latest fiasco - the increases in Car taxes and fuel costs.

What I want to know is why Scotland/Wales have FREE PRESCRIPTIONS yet I have to fork out over 30 pounds a month for my medication just so I can function in a semi-normal fashion.

Re: Labour...

I saw someone ask a Tory MP that - think it was Andrew Marr on the BBC, and the MP replied - well we don't want to give too much away before election time, otherwise Labour will steal our policies.

Sounded more like they don't have any major differentiating policies at all...
