    Re: What is this AntiVirus redirect all about? Scam?

    but what is it? I'm running an Antivirus on the PC now, and so far, nothing.

    I was on Legion Hardware and it redirected me. I doubt that it's an advert redirect from them. Not had one before.

    Re: What is this AntiVirus redirect all about? Scam?

    That would be spyware - it's not a virus so many anti-virus programs won't pick it up, and it's spyware in it's worse form. It's not actually detecting anything on your computer, it's just a load of fake images making it look like it's scanning your machine but it's just an advert so it can infect your system with loads of rubbish. Also I would remove the link from your post so it doesn't harm other peoples machines.

    Here's how to get rid of it, assuming it's infected your machine, if it hasn't an you can't find anything below on your machine you should be okay.

    1. Open Task Manager (CTRL+ATL+DEL), go to the "Processes" tab and stop the following processes: VistaAntivirus2008.exe + AntVrs.exe
    2. Search your computer (make sure you search for hidden files too) for the follow files and delete them: shlwapi.dll + wininet.dll + Vista Antivirus 2008.lnk + Uninstall Antivirus.lnk
    3. Remove the following registry enteries (if you don't know how to do this let me know and I'll explain it more):

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Antivirus
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Antivirus
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Antivirus

    4. Download CCleaner and install it and run it, click "Analyze" then click "Run Cleaner" to get rid of all the random rubbish that is on the system.
    5. Whilst still in CCleaner, click on the "Registry" button on the left hand side of the program. When you've done that, click the "Scan for Issues" button. When it's scanned, click "Fix Selected Issues...". A window will pop up asking if you want to make a backup, click "Yes" and save it somewhere. After that you'll get another window with a button called "Fix All Selected Issues", click that then "OK" on the dialog that pops up - and when it's done, run it again and do the same, then again and again until there are 0 problems found.

    After that, you're sorted.

    Re: What is this AntiVirus redirect all about? Scam?

    vav-scan.com directs to nginx where the source of the website literally just displays:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Welcome to nginx!</title>
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="white" text="black">
    <center><h1>Welcome to nginx!</h1></center>
    </body>
    </html>

    and that is it... now... the webpage for vav (vista anti virus)

    which is vav-scan, is just a fake scan image and a series of popups, that end in a download of an .exe file which then installs a trojan which appears next to the clock on the taskbar, stating that you have a virus

    for those that want to see it look HERE (youtube video)

    it seems to have surfaced on the 8th of june this year

    scanner.vav-scan.com just brings up a 404 error page but it is still listed by google as "This site may harm your computer."

    and the search "vav.scan" has been quite high up in google hits.....

    I get exasperated by all these hoaxes that are around. It's not that we don't spot them but just get fed up looking at them!

    ugh hate all these fake antivirus spyware programs. liklely been malware free for years.
    to clean infected machines i use superantispyware,drweb cure it. sometimes malware bytes antispyware as well.
    drweb cure it doesnt need installing. just download and run.

    Re: What is this AntiVirus redirect all about? Scam?

    One of my teachers spent a week installing Spybot and AVG on all the school computers once. Unforntunately he didn't get them from the proper websites... ending up with a virus getting on the school system, knocking them down for about 10-14 days....
