    Applying for a passport

Long story short.. student loan company are rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish and I'm gonna have to apply for a passport before I can get a student loan.

Anyway.. my passport expired in 2005.. My parents applied for me in 2000 as I was about 10 at the time.. but I'm applying for it again so I'm not sure whether I need to apply for renewal or a new passport? It's all rather confusing as the booklet just speaks about the expired passport as if it's an adult passport.. but in my situation I was under 16 at the time.

    Any help is appreicated

    Thanks!

i think it still counts as a renewal if you have had a passport before... no matter how long ago it was...

    Re: Applying for a passport

I hope so. Will be cheaper, and easier

    Can anyone confirm this?

Edit: One thing that throws me is in the guidence book it says "If you are an adult and have a fully valid British passport which you want to renew, and it is not damaged, and you do not want to change any details, you only need to fill in sections 1, 2, 3 and 9......."

I presume my passport isn't "fully valid" as it expired 3 years ago?

Yeah still have the old one.

Interesting... haha. The student loan company are treating me like that just because I haven't known any cops or lawyers for 2 years!.. bloody stupid.

    Re: Applying for a passport

I applied for a new one for pretty much the same reason.

All you do is say it's a renewal - doesn't matter how old it is - mine expired in December and i applied mid march.

You put the number of the old passport on the form, you send them the old passport (they realise that you're not a terrorist) and everything is cushty.

Bear in mind the new regulations on passport photos, they're a lot stricter.

And WHATEVER YOU DO don't pay for the post office to check it for you - complete waste of money!

Yeah thats what you need to do for the student loan form.. just one person though. I may try my optician (he's a hexus member and has known me for 2 years.. haha).

It is really silly though. I applied for my driving licence (got a family friend to sign it) and I've travelled on an airplane with it! So why the bloody hell is it so stupid to apply for a loan!?..

    Re: Applying for a passport

I recently re-did mine, it expired in August, I was able to put it through as a renewal, you have to give them your old passport though, takes 2 weeks or so IIRC unless you get an appointment and do it same day (which costs more obviously)
