What if you want to earn a bit of cash in your spare time while at university?
Surely they might be able to assist you in transferring to a local McDonalds near your choice of University.
Then, the cash you would earn would come in handy for beer, nights out and other student things

At least this isn't America where you could then take them to court for physical damage to your lungs and the mental stresses caused by working in that particular atsmosphere...
Good luck getting a better job!

Do your two weeks and quit.

I thought it was absolutely, intensely brilliant.
And yeah, don't worry too much about a reference from Mc Donalds, especially as you're only working there for a few weeks, if you had been working for about six months or more then a reference would make a tiny bit of difference when applying for a similarly skilled job
If you are that concerned about getting employed in the future, try doing some volunteering work or try and get some work experience in the field you plan to work the rest of your life in...surely a few weeks doing that would look better than a few weeks in bog-standard Mc Donalds, no?

Thanks for all the good advice and youtube videos everyone. I'm waiting till next payday to decide what I'm doing.
I'm still on my probationary period, which means I could just not turn up for a few days and they'd fire me anyway, although I'd have to give back my uniform.
What was the mention of the P45? Would walking out have bad consequences if, say, I left McDonalds off my CV and applied to Cafe Nero or Tescos or something?
P45 is what you get when they lay you off.
P60 is what you are legally entitled to when you finish work, this details the taxes you have payed vs your income since the start of the tax year (April 4th)
I thought you always get a P60 at the end of each working year, and you get a P45 when you leave the job. Both important for tax reasons.
I've never been fired and I have a few P45's ..
i would just work the notice tbh.. or just be sick for it I know it's only maccy mc dougals but a reference is a reference and you won't feel the need to leave it off your cv that way.
Hi guys,
I have a similar question to this. If your contract states your notice period is NIL (as a person has been there less than 4 weeks), do you just tell the manager at the place you do not intend to be back verbally/ or give them a letter of resignation & handing them ID etc?
why ppl here are taking the micks...I used to work for Macky. The pay is not brilliant, but sometimes it can be fun. Especially, when all you friends are there too...
If this doesn't scare you away from McD's, nothing will:

The decent thing is to do the notice period. You would get a bit more money and 2 weeks is over really quickly. The reference is useless BTW, but you will probably get a tax-rebate that will make your heart beat faster for a while.
