Smile I'm running just over a half marathon on sunday...

    Hi all

This Sunday I'll be running the Northumberland Coastal Run, which follows about 14 miles of Northumberland Coastline from Beadnall to Alnmouth. I've been running for about a year now and I thought it was about time to do something worthwhile with it so i've entered this race and I'm running to raise money for Alzheimers Research Trust http://www.alzheimers-research.org.uk/ because it's something that's affected my family and Alzheimers research is generally not very well supported. If all goes well I'll be aiming for a time of around 2 hours, hopefully less, but probably a bit more, it depends on the weather!

I was hoping that there may be some people on here willing to sponsor me a few quid through http://www.justgiving.com/andrewmarwood For anyone that can I'd be massively greatful

    Many Thanks

    Andy

P.S. I've asked Zak if this is OK and he said it was

Good on ya! I'm hoping to reach a half marathon by the end of the year. Currently doing between 5-7 miles 5 nights a week but suffering quite badly with the dreaded shin splints, hurts like hell very frustrating

    Best of luck

    lol stewart!

rox0r you'd be fine for a half, just sounds like you need more rest to get time to recover, i've only been running between 5.5 and 7 miles every other day with long runs once a week. My biggest problem will be dehydration but i can't bring myself to wear one of them water carrying belts

remember to have a bowl of pasta the night before to stock up on your carbs and if you dont need to crap in the morning, make yourself! running makes everything move downwards quicker

Re: I'm running just over a half marathon on sunday...

They usually hand out drinks at certain places in the route... at least they did that for the Great North Run that I did... so you won't need a water carrying belt

Good luck mate, I never ran more than 5 miles before my half marathon (only did that a couple of times too!), but I still managed to finish in ok time (about 2 hours).... You should easily beat 1hr45m... No pressure mate

Re: I'm running just over a half marathon on sunday...

Thanks for the messages everyone, the race is now complete and i thoroughly enjoyed it*, it was exceptionally well organised and it just felt good. I finished in 1 hour 49 which i am really pleased with, so over 14 miles i averaged just under an 8 minute mile.

    Thanks Again

    Andy

*those weren't exactly my thoughts at around the 11 mile stage....

Nice work, canny lad. That's all round the neck of the woods of where I get my Geordie half (from my Dad) - Ashington, Newbiggin etc. Always used to get us tins of shell-shaped mints when he went back, think they were 'Newbiggin Cockles'... though I may be getting them confused with Berwick cockles, but they seem to be something different. Anyway I don't suppose you'd like to jog the extra 10 miles or so & get me a tin to check..
