    Does anyone work for Hotpoint?

We have 2 machines, a washing machine, and a dishwasher, that ave both broken within a week of each other.

They have 5 year PARTS guarantee on them, but Hotpoint want £100 for a call out!

Anyone know if there's a way to sort this slightly more cost effectively? I will in theory ring them for a two call outs for the price of one, kinda thing, but thought I'd ask if anyone on here worked for them first?

Quite miffed tbh. Both items three years old, the washer bangs like a drum on spin, and yet both internal springs are fine, and the dishwasher just broke it's door catch (not user error, nothing to do to it, you just push the door shut) so it wont wash.

I've just had the same thing... the Mobo went on my 18 month old Washing machine.

I got a £15 a month for 10 months deal where they come and fix, replace anything thats needed and you then get another 12 months warranty on the machine.
Give them a call would be the best bet, they're quite friendly on the phone (and the engineer was a top bloke, as I was asking more than your usual questions!)

Re: Does anyone work for Hotpoint?

I work for Curry's and your gonna have a fight on your hands with Hotpoint with this I'm affraid.

Basically Hoptpoint give your 1 years parts and labour, and then 4 years parts only. They will supply the parts free of charge, but you have to pay for the engineers labour costs at £90 an hour, I think that price does include VAT though. If he's been there for several hours for each appliace you may aswell buy new ones to be honest with you.

That said you can go down the trading standards road (which I would, even I would expect more than three years a piece out of those appliances, don't suppose you can give model numbers ?)

Basically you need to get an independant engineers report either Hotpoint themselves or another VAT registered company, pay for the report so they can quote you for the cost of the work and then write a letter to your local trading standards department and to the retailer you bought them off.

If it's proven beyond all reasonable doubt that both machines were faulty from purchase and not due to customer abuse then whoever sold them to you must pay for the repairs and give you the money back for the engineers report or give you a partial refund on those appliances so you can buy new ones.

I think thats the process anyway, it's a bit vague at the moment, have had quite a few bottles of Bulmers tonight.

Re: Does anyone work for Hotpoint?

@Tigg : Thanks missus. We saw that offer, but tbh I am dissapointed to think I mighty need to spend £150 for a one year warranty on something that costs about £300 to buy new.
New cars cost £6000 - upwards, and a one year warranty after the 3 years free are about £200! If they were at the same ratio as the washing machine/dishwasher, the warranty would be £3000 per year on a basic corsa, and £15000 on a typical exec model! So I dont pay skewed prices, I tend to buy new again.

Howwwwwever, money's tighter for us this year (as it is with the entire world) so we may look into an aftermarket fix. I'd LIKE to try to get the parts free somehow, without an engineer. The dishwasher is gonna be a little plastic clip and a spring...I heard it "ping" off when the door shut, and now I can see the little catch is floppy inside the door. That;s gonna be a £1.99 clip, you can just tell. Hence the retisence to spend £100 for a visit.

Shall have a little fight today, but won't do the trading standards route, can't see the point. AN independant engineer and the following law suite will leave me having to buy another unit to live with in the mean time, so a waste of my life I think.

    Cheers for your input guys.

Re: Does anyone work for Hotpoint?

Call a local repair guy, explain the issue and see what he says. Those independent blokies that sell hoover bags and the like are pretty damn good and will give you an honest answer. That spring should be a doddle IF you can get the part... the washing machine is a different bird altogether, so maybe best to get an engineer out on an inspection basis.

The one in Leighton Buzzard charged £15 to come out and inspect, then gave an honest answer as to the worth of replacing or repairing... the trick is finding someone you think you can trust.
