    Persistant automated calls

Nearly everyday we're getting called at home and a pre-recorded message is played at us from a company we've never had any dealings with and asking for someone who we've never heard of and who has never lived at our address.

We've attempted to indicate as such to them. We've found their contact details and written to them informing them that no-such person lives or has ever lived at this address and could they please stop calling.

But all to no avail. What should we try next, short of paying BT to allow us to block the call?

We're already on the TPS, but that only seems to cover overtly marketing calls. Ditto the information commisioners office.

    Re: Persistant automated calls

BT do (or did, anyway) have an abuse service, where they'll deal with some types of problem call. But I don't know if this fits the definition. And it was some years ago I when I used it.

I used to get regular calls on my home line from a fax number that was obviously auto-dialling. I spoke to BT, and the calls stopped more-or-less immediately. That fax dialler did, however, have the annoying habit of calling at between 2AM and 3AM, which might be why BT classified it as abuse.

    It's worth a try though.

    Re: Persistant automated calls

Yeah I have the BT malicious calls bureau number (0800 661 441) which they say can be used to report persistent nuisance calls and I'll give that a try, but I don't know how helpful they'll be given they sell a service now to block up to 10 specific phone numbers.

    Re: Persistant automated calls

Gah they were indeed useless. They checked out the number and said we shouldn't be receiving calls from them, so please file a report with TPS and they supposedly put me through.. only I just ended up in BT's 'press one to order our privacy package, press two to hear it again, hang up if you aren't interested in purchasing the package' thing

Have filed a report with TPS online but doubt they will do anything.

Edit: well quick response from TPS - they said go talk to the ICO.

    Re: Persistant automated calls

There has been a huge increase of these calls to my house also, im fed up with as it shows they have lsot the plot. I dont mind the telemarketers cos they are funny when they sell internet phone rental stuff and say it wont affect your broadband and wont use the internet O.o. Now this is pure lazy, i wish i could block them without paying so i havent bothered.

    Re: Persistant automated calls

BT Privacy is free I believe and gives you caller display include (actually I'm not quite sure what else it gives you apart from this...), might be useful so you can see the call coming and just press red.

Hope the problem is sorted out soon, I had that Nigerian call back scam for a couple of weeks on my mobile, managed to pick up quickly enough once to shout something at the person calling...
