    A lot of new members?

Is it just me, or are there a lot of new members in the past couple of days?

Seem to be quite a few trying to up their post count to, oh, about 20. Some haven't realised that posts in the Welcome forum aren't counted either

Yes, we're aware of some people doing that.

To qualify for the Scan offer, it needs to be genuine posts, not just fillers with little or no real content. If we see drivel being posted, apparently for the intention of qualifying for that, one (or both) of two things will happen :-

    - the posts will be deleted.
    - we will give Scan a heads-up, and the offer won't be extended.

What are "real" posts? Ones that actually contribute something, be it asking real questions in tech areas and following up on the answers, or better yet, providing help for others in tech areas, or even meaningful participation in discussions in social areas of the board. We're not looking to make it hard for people to qualify, but we ARE looking for a genuine contribution, and not for people to join up, make 20 posts, place an order and never be seen again.

Ultimately, that offer is at Scan's discretion, and if people are believed to be posting JUST to qualify for that, Scan can and at that discretion, will be exercising their right to decline. It may be, then, that that person will have to reach a higher level of posting to qualify, in order to demonstrate that they are active forum members.

Ultimately, it's Scan's decision whether to apply that offer, but it is intended to be offered to genuine forum participants. As a guide, 20 is the minimum posts required to demonstrate that, but it isn't that on hitting 20 people can then insist on free shipping, otr automatically just by having 20 posts. It's Scan's choice ..... and it's our (Hexus's) choice if we delete spamming type posts, which we will if we feel it's justified.

For instance, joining the forum, posting 20 posts and on the 21st post, on the day of joining, asking about that offer, IS going to raise eyebrows .... and questions. We would then look at the content of those posts. It might be approved, but it might not.

Re: A lot of new members?

I did that when I joined.. Got to 20 on one thread in hardware, then got to my current amount by posting totally useless/helpful comments on all the other threads in GD/Gaming/occasionally other forums.

No one seems to have noticed that I tend to repeat myself in the Hardware forums yet

Though whether that's because of the fact that everyone asks the same questions, or because I give the same answer, is up to you.

That's why it's a judgement call, mediaboy. And why hard and fast rules are not easy to come up with.

And what makes you think you weren't noticed and watched?

    Or still aren't?

Re: A lot of new members?

Shouldn't it be like, 20 posts over a set timespan or something? so you can't just sign up, spam for 5 mins just to get the postage and go away* again never to participate again.

*that was gonna be a stronger word... yay for self censorship!

Re: A lot of new members?

I've had a few PM's from admins here about people's post counts getting reset and stuff due to them abusing the forums.

Is it time to dig out Mr T to go after them like he goes after the power-walkers
