    British Gas Prices up 35%

Just seen this - the only people who actually do fixed tariff is Scottish Power, if you want to call them call this number -

No doubt everyone else will be putting prices up - the 2 major suppliers have put them up in the past 7 days.

Re: British Gas Prices up 35%

    Gotta read the terms carefully...

*1 ScottishPower’s Fixed Price Energy 2009 prices are guaranteed until 31st August 2009. These prices are higher than our current monthly Direct Debit prices effective 2nd February 2008 by an equivalent of £3.00 (inc. VAT) for gas and £3.50 (inc. VAT) for electricity per month. Prices correct as at 2nd June 2008. Figures shown are inclusive of VAT at the applicable rate of 5%.

    But more importantly this one...

Because we are buying the energy in advance, we may apply cancellation charges inclusive of VAT of £30 for electricity and £20 for gas if you switch your supply contract or switch to another tariff before the 31st August 2009. These charges will not be applied if the supply contract is cancelled due to a home move.
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

Yep I read both - challenge is if all the prices go up (highly likely).... then we are looking at huge savings - so I guess it comes down to if your price isn't fixed yet - fix it - in 1 month alone I should be clear on the £30 cancellation fee should I want to move.

Also there is a 7 day cancellation period according to the phone chap so it's low risk... from when you get the contract

I just called them and its 10% cheaper than I am paying at the moment with nPower so I've switched....

I fixed mine with Scottish Power a month or so ago until Feb 2011 - think that they've withdrawn that tariff now though.

Re: British Gas Prices up 35%

First off, everyone take a deep breath.
    /inhale.....hold
    and breathe

These are HEADLINE rates, and the last time we had a price rise, it actually only effected the FIRST units of energy in a set period, and the rest were lower. In fact, the last price "rise" drew even for me.

We must wait to see the tarriff.

If they have lowered how many units are in the first "step" and raised |THOSE prices by 35% then it'll be a small increase.

I tell you what else...they're clearly trying to get us all into electricity, because that only went up 9% so people buying new cookers, hobs etc will look more at electric units than gas.

    More nuclear anyone?

Re: British Gas Prices up 35%

    OK here goes for mine

Eastern Electric (eklectric is provided for British gas by the local supplier)

    Tier One: first 125kWh
    WAS 30.315 per kWh
    NOW 32.379 per kWh

Tier Two (for the rest of the elec that quarter)
    WAS 10.093 per kWh
    NOW 12.157 per kWh

Night time (Economy 7, midnight until 7am)
WAS 4.842 per kWh (this was double what it was a year ago)
    NOW 5.584 per kWh

Now in my mind that is quite a jump. The first units (sadly) whizz by, so it's the next lot that count, and going from 10.093 to 12.157 is in my mind a 20% hike...not the 9% adertised!!

Re: British Gas Prices up 35%

First 670 kWh at tier 1
    The rest at Tier 2

You get a small discount for paying by DD
Tier 1 WAS 6.459 per kWh
Tier 1 NOW 7.622 per kWh

Tier 2 WAS 2.709 per kWh
Tier 2 NOW 3.872 per kWh

NOW THATS A 42% price hike!!!
AND the reduction for paying by Direct Debit has changed and the maximum saving has dropped.

I'm feeling a little chafed to be honest!

It's really putting me off going for a gas cooker to replace my current electric one. These price hikes make it much less appealing
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

im with atlantic energy (for gas), which is the internet branch of scottish power (i think). it was the cheapest when we switched. but ill have to recheck.

unfortunatly the last tennents in our house had bad credit so were on prepayment meters for lecky, so our bill comes to about £1900 a year, thats with the cheapest supplier of prepay EDF (again the last time i checked)

for lecky we pay 18p per day standing charge, and 7.8p for every unit

before i switched we were paying same standing charge per day and 14.8p per unit (Npower) this was about 2 years ago, and it must have gone up since.
