Nvidia will be able to create chipsets compatible with microprocessors by Advanced Micro Devices, however, considering the fact that that AMD only commands about 20% of x86 chip market and pushes its own chipsets, it hardly makes a lot of sense for Nvidia to develop AMD-compatible core-logic sets. That said, Nvidia had decided to quit the chipset business, which brings hundreds of millions dollars in revenue to the company every quarter.

But according to digitimes nvidia has said they have no intention to quit the market

:o
Everything seems a little confused. I suppose we will have to wait and see what isn't on the market next year.
Re: Nvidia to stop making Motherboard chipsets (or are they)
was some of there new top end boards not pulled from some of the more well known board makers?
Re: Nvidia to stop making Motherboard chipsets (or are they)
didn't i read someplace that Nvidia had sold the rights so another manufacturer could make SLI chipsets and boards... or was i dreaming / HOPING....
Re: Nvidia to stop making Motherboard chipsets (or are they)
if they are quitting the chipset business then they will hav to do just that, so they can compete in the GFX market in the ultra high end sector. Someone needs to make the SLI chipsets, or that will stop too, which i highly doubt
Re: Nvidia to stop making Motherboard chipsets (or are they)
Would Intel buy the idea out or start their own version, (crossfire, sli, etc) when they start releasing GFX cards??

A reviewer i know emailed them and got this

I contacted Nvidia this morning about this and here is the response I got.
The story on Digitimes is completely groundless. We have no intention of getting out of the chipset business.
In fact, our MCP business is as strong as it ever has been for both AMD and Intel platforms:
a. Mercury Research has reported that the NVIDIA market share of AMD platforms in Q2 08 was 60%. We have been steady in this range for over two years.
b. SLI is still the preferred multi-GPU platform thanks to its stellar scaling, game compatibility and driver stability.
c. nForce 790i SLI is the recommended choice by editors worldwide due to its compelling combination of memory performance, overclocking, and support for SLI. In fact, a recent article on Tom’s Hardware recently came to the same conclusion:

We're looking forward to bring new and very exciting MCP products to the market for both AMD and Intel platforms.
