I don't make enough per year to get taxed - I take it I can't expect anything extra?

    read the article

The effective cash-back comes because personal allowances for basic rate taxpayers go up by £600 to £6,035 from 7 September.
but read the section on Higher earners if it applies to you you'll be no better off.

and all this because they failed to realise the new 20% tax class would screw up low income homes, benefit people earning around £18k or more, and now they're having to give back tax to EVERYONE instead of the most needy.

I'm not the most needy...I earn well enough...I don't NEED this dough. People earning £12k per year with a family...THEY need it... and they got screwed.

Mine's going to charity. Prolly world vision or the RSPCA. This government are just.... a bit dim.

Well, I'd have said reckless, ignorant, deceitful and stupid ..... but then, they're politicians, so can we be surprised?

I didn't think the 20% tax class was anything new - wasn't it the same before Labour introduced the 10p rate?

The basic tax rate was 22% before 1997, Labour then introduced the lower rate of tax at 10%. Where labour messed up was removing that lower 10% tax rate and cutting the basic tax rate to 20%, effectively made people on low incomes pay tax at 20% instead of 10%, a big hit in the pocket*.

*tax credits were suppose to compensate these people - but ~2million people were worst off.
