Women lives of £1 a day for a year
Just read this: Daily Mail
"With her rent and utility bills already paid for the year, her budget had to cover transport, food, clothes and socialising."
Bloody hell, If I could just live of £2 a day on food I would save a crap load.
I'll have to get her book.

Fair play to her! It's alot easier if you can afford to pay off your bills/rent etc but it can be done! I wish my garden wasn't bloody concrete I'd love to grow my own vedge.
Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year
well £5 a day leaves her with £120 a month for rent and bills, possible in a really scummy area or in a tiny place, but not on a large home.
A lot of respect to get that kind of commitment level sustained though

Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year

Miss Kelly has written a book about her year of living frugally - How I Lived On Just A Pound A Day, published by Redcliffe at £6.99.
Well that's 1 week without food

looking at that... with the prices today, shes basically just buying 1 pea and 1 mushroom....
and by selling her book @ £6.99 how is anyone going to follow in her footsteps?
Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year
I used to get lots of food from supermarket bins. I still would, were it not for the fact that my new job makes it impractical (and the fact that I can no longer be bothered).
Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year

Pffft. The police saw me doing it once; they questioned me to check that I wasn't a nutter then told me to carry on. They have more important things to worry about.
In any case, it may be debatably illegal but it's certainly morally correct, so I'd do it even if there were any risk of getting prosecuted, which there isn't.

Ha Ha, If no one wants it, NO ONE wants it, not even a thief.

Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year
I'm glad I have never been in the position where I have needed to have to steal food, especially when it is being thrown out as rubbish.
Still, looking at things from my perspective, I'll probably be working the lower paid jobs for a while yet. I think that maybe there are some good tips this woman could give me. I'm fed up of working stupid hours on a weekend. And hearing that someone is lived of a pound a day for a year is someone I'll admire. I never want to be in the position where I have to grab food being thrown out as rubbish, I think she is right that people are greedy and wastefull.
I would really like to see what food she was buying in the supermarkets.
An extra £15 - £20 pound a week to spend could be usefull.
And all the times I have asked myself for things to do on a day that doesn't cost me money.
Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year
lol... my daily commute is £27.50 so I doubt i'll manage that some how... (includes train, parking and petrol... doesnt include car insurance/tax/service etc)
Normally manage to blow through £10 a day in food & drink too while I'm at work... :(
*feels bad*
Re: Women lives of £1 a day for a year
I just got my mitts on a copy of her book today.
I'm 46 pages into the book. Although she mentions Dumpster diving in her book and Freegans It seems she didn't actually do it herself.
She had lots of nights out going to different events and got free booze and stuff. Even cinema tickets from coupons in the local papers that had been discarded.
