Driver updates I can handle. Mobile Me; I cant.

Although, when I installed Office for Mac 2004 on my MacBook, it also installed MSN messenger for mac. I didn't want it and it didn't ask me if I wanted it, it just installed it anyway.

    It's not exactly uncommon practice.

So that's how I ended up with Mobile Me on my PC...

I don't really know what it does so I deleted it during a recent clean up with my beloved CCleaner

I think you have to remeber here this isn't a case of installing some extra user mode app, this is a kernel mode invasion.

But i can understand why, its easy to often assume that components exist, and the desire to standardise a build can be quite compelling.

The big problem here is that its kernel mode software, which should always be considered risky, it reduces system stability, and if its written by a frankly shoddy firm with a track record of screwing up other people's OS's security, then mabye it shouldn't be installed by default.

This is why my iPods/iPhone are only used with my MBP, and goes nowhere near my Windows machine. Ever.

Winamp ftw! It syncs with pods so no need for a zillion processes and all that other junk. Sweet deal.

Same but I am moving to MediaMonkey as I can also level the volume on my music, add missing artwork and incorrect tags (half of my old cds now updated as the old gracenote stuff was terrible and some tags corrupted over time)

Re: zdnet article on why itunes 8.0 is causing them crashes...

Its reasons like this as to why I haven't installed iTunes at all on my fresh Vista install, I'm trying to actually keep some bloat off it this time so I might be able to go longer without having to reinstall again!

Also makes me quite happy I don't have an iPod (Shock) so I don't actually need it either.

Re: zdnet article on why itunes 8.0 is causing them crashes...

i won an ipod a few weeks ago. i normally use mediamonkey for my music.
but itunes gives me better album/track info and also better cover art. so i image my computer with paragon install itunes. tranfer music to my ipod then restore the image.
