Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
We don't have a TV in the bedroom, so we regularly use the laptop for films & tv stuff etc... I'm now getting fed up of having to prop my knees up to watch.
Anyone recommend a good solution/stand?
In an ideal world there'd be a monitor/lcd on the wall but in rented acommodation thats a no no.

Yup, breakfast tray ftw, got mine from B&Q some time ago.

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
the second link is really fancy actually

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
Both look a bit more substantial than the ebay ones I'd been looking at...

no real support, can imagine the screws coming loose in time and the unit becoming useless!

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
When I went to Uni a few years ago, I got a dinner tray that had a beanbag thing on the bottom from Matalan. Found that useful for using laptops on as well.

I use a pillow, but it still rests on your legs :(
Will invest in a Breakfast in Bed tray with a view to modding it for some 'hot tilt action' possibly, at somepoint, if i can be bothered :)

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
breakfast tray is the cheapest option, the ebay link posted looks pretty good too. but some other ones (i seen some japanese ones) were very expensive.

I actually use a plastic tray that was about 99p to keep mine steady while watching stuff on the laptop :)

I tend to use the bosom of a hot chick; or the dismembered torso of an enemy, depending on how you're feeling. The choice is yours.

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
It's not about keeping the laptop steady...
It's about keeping my legs comfortable and free, my mansack cool and available to her should she wish to fumble :D

Wooooooooooooooooooo
I've had Lapnut's syndrome for ages,
have been meaning to order something like this.
Winner indeed

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
I got a Belkin CushTop ages ago, I can't remember where from, but it tilts it up nicely. Plus you can stick the power adapter inside it when you're not using it :)

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
Get stronger arms.. I just hold my laptop near vertical whilst I'm laying in bed :)

I just lie down about 30 degree up and put the edge of my Inspiron 1525 above my stomach, let the back of lcd rest on my folded legs, screen can open up to 180 degrees :rolleyes; Well, but for some laptops it put a hell lot of stress on the hinge having to work against gravity.

If he's taking his laptop to bed (rather than his other half) then he's going to be getting (a) stronger arm(s) any way :naughty:

I'm not even going to comment on that.
I shouldn't need to.

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
I was tempted for a second, but then I noticed that those stands are all sharply tilted downward. I guess that's the point, since you'd need to bend your knees to get that sort of angle. But why do people want that angle? I am typing this with the laptop above my knee supported by my thigh (just one by putting one leg over the other - reasonably comfortable position when leaning back against the wall and to raise the laptop a few inches) and that's as similar to typing on a table as I can get. The only reason I would get one of those stand is... as an insurance for my crotch. My VAIO meets my requirements perfectly, but I do have some concern over Sony's history on batteries malfunctioning (but I've used this laptop on a desk for a months now so it's probably alright).

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
On the other hand, you could try using a projector and set of wireless keyboard/mouse :)
No temperarue problem, no angle problem, no weight problem.

The angle should be changeable. I'll find out tonight.

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
I have the belkin cush top thing - it works really well.
I'm still trying to find a practical way of using the laptop or at least having it viewable when I'm not sitting up in bed - i.e. laying on my side - at present its been a challenge to say the least - and the added drawback of often falling asleep on the keyboard lol

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
Ok, so took receipt of the unit, and found some time to get back to you! Having no internet at home is a ballache!
The stand is good, does a perfect job. Probably not got the quality to keep taking it down and putting it back up, nor is it going to last me a lifetime. But it's doing it's job, well.

Re: Laptops in bed... How? Stand?
I have a CushTop on order from Scan as of today - plus I have three laptops to test it on - a 20" monster HP HDX (which I'm not expecting to fit), a cacky old Dell Inspiron 5000 15" (which will) and my lovely new Eee By Gum PC 1000H! :)
