    Advice needed on new headphones!

Not sure if this is the right place so mods please move it if its in the wrong bit.

Right at the moment got some Plantronics (can't remember which ones) and recently the sound has been dropping out on them. Bit annoying as there only a year old.

I'm not only after a good gaming headset but also one for movies/music. Not rally fussed about it having a mic or not. So I have these on my shirt list:

SteelSeries SteelSound 5H v2 Gaming Headset
    Plantronics GameCom 377 Gaming Headset
    Plantronics GameCom 777 Gaming Headset
    Sennheiser HD 215 Headphones
Philips SHP8500 Hi Fi Stereo Headphones

Anyone had experience with some of these? Or have I overlooked some?

The Sennheiser HD485 Wired Hi-Fi Headphone seem to get good reviews. Anyone got them?

    edit: scratch that!

Re: Advice needed on new headphones!

Ok had a look at the Sennheiser range at around the £40 mark. Trying to choose between the Sennheiser HD 215 Headphones and Sennheiser HD 465 Open Headphones. The Sennheiser HD 215 have some very good reviews but i can't find much on the Sennheiser HD 465. Has someone got these or can point me to a review for the Sennheiser HD 465 ?

edit: Might give up lol seems they don't have a volume control which i need for game/movies on the 360.

Creative Fatal1ty Pro Series Gaming Headset seem ok and at an ok price. Any thoughts on these?

I have a pair of the Sennheiser HD 215 and while I think they are a great set I do find that they are slighly lacking in the bass department. Very comfortable for long periods of time and they aren't too heavy too.

My biggest complaint about them is that I find the cable too short so I've had to buy an extension cable if I'm going to use them on my PC.

As for the Creative Fatal1ty Pro's, I've got those too, the sound is very good, great levels of bass (some people complain it's too much, I actually think they are just right) nice and comfortable, sometime forget I am wearing them !!

Main draw backs on these for me though are the fact that the build quality isn't the best, and the quality of the connecting cables doesn't look all that great, can de damaged quite easily.

Re: Advice needed on new headphones!

The Koss PortaPro provide rather amazing sound for the price range. It's more 'aggressive' than the typical Sennheiser (and can be used to gauge whether you might like Grados headphones), which is good for games/movies, and by no mean inferior to most cans up to 60 pound for music either.

Thanks guys! Will have a think on what ones to go with.

edit: The Sennheiser HD 215 don't have a volume control on the lead do they? Because having a volume control on the lead is a must!!

Re: Advice needed on new headphones!

You can always get an extension lead with a volume control if that's really important to you. The more decent cans tend to leave that facility out, but I don't think it's worth writing them off on that basis. You may also want to check out the Head-Fi forum though chances are most will tell you not to bother with gaming headset (I tend to share that opinion).

Ah right didn't know you could get the volume control separate. The reason I want the volume control is because it directly connected to my 360. Will check that forum too!

    Thx

Re: Advice needed on new headphones!

Just ordered the Creative Aurvana Live! Headphones after much review reading, and also considering other headphones. But I can't seem to find out if they have a volume control. Can anyone tell me if they do have a volume control or not so that I can order the Sennheiser HZR62 Stereo Volume Control from Amazon.

    Thank you!

Re: Advice needed on new headphones!

Had the Creative Aurvana Live! headphones about 2 weeks or so, and the sound is great!! But......................they hurt my head after wearing them for long periods I'm now thinking of going back to my old headphones (the Plantronics Audio 370 Analogue Gaming Headset ) due to their comfort. Now before I buy another set should I consider anything else? Top of the list needs to be comfort and then sound. I only wish I could have the creative aurvana live sound with the headband off the plantronics 370

And if do get a new headset pm if anyone would like the creative ones! (not sure if that last bit is allowed, if not just remove the line!)

I should maybe mention i wear glasses so the ear cups can't be too small. Will check the Sennheiser PC151 out!

The ear cups aren't that small and aren't that big either. It's like a donut ring about 5-4cm in diameter which is made of velvet or something smooth and doesn't hurt the ears for prolonged use. Velvet or smooth cushion at the top where it rests on top of your head. I never thought much of headphones before thinking they were all the same but these ones are different, and so are their in ear headphones too (CX-500's).
