    cheapest car insurance

hi, im currently with Endsliegh and looking to change as for some reason the price i pay each month is going to go UP even though i have never had any claims or accidence since i have driven! shouldnt my car insurance go down?

im on my mid 20's and have been driving for 5-6 years now and was wondering where i can find the best deals for car insurance. im currently on comprehensive cover so looking for something similar and cheaper.

if i go with a one off payment plan, do i have to pay it all now or after the 12months as gone by? i heard its cheaper to do so but atm strapped for cash and couldnt afford to pay the full wack now

    cheers

Have you tried confused.com or gocompare.com, they're usually the best places.

In my 15 years being bent over backwards when I renew my car insurance, Admiral have offered me a renewal quote that is the lowest I can find elsewhere for the last 2 years running. I almost coffed up gopher when it first happened

    Re: cheapest car insurance

Tesco was a ripoff for me (about £800 when everyone else was around £500-600)... the cheapest for me (23, licence held for 3.5 years, no accidents) was MoreThan (~£430 fully comp on a 1.4 16v MK3F VW Polo), but when I did have an accident (I was not at fault) they were pretty crap at sorting it out. I guess you get what you pay for.

Why should your insurance go down? Your at max NCD, so you won't be seeing any major drops. What does happen is that insurance companies will update their systems each year based on a number of factors. Area you live in may have had an increase in thefts, you may have a new job which has an impact, you could have moved and your car is now parked on the road. Or just simply that the insurance company has increased its rates.

If you pay monthly then most insurance companies will charge you for that privilege. The cheapest method is the one of payment, and yes you have to pay it upfront. One way to make your premium lower is to look at the excess level.

I've never found any of the comparison sites to be of any benefit to me. So have always checked directly with them. That way i know exactly what i'm getting. As with all things in life you get what you pay for. Going for the cheapest may be good for the pennies, but the last thing you need when you have to make a claim is agro.

I personally use Direct line for both car and house, i can find some slightly (£30 per year) cheaper insurance, but i have faith in Direct line after making 2 claims with them in the past. More than worth the effort.

    Re: cheapest car insurance

I've found that there's not one company out there that is universally cheaper - it seems to be down to the luck of the draw. I was with Direct Line for 10 years until August, when they sent me a renewal letter asking for £520-ish.

    I'm 31 years old.
I passed my test when I was 17.
I drive a nearly 5 year old 1.1 litre Citroen Saxo (with no other drivers on it) for "pleasure" and commuting to one place of work.
I've never had any points or claimed anything on my insurance.
    I haven't moved house in 10 years.

Previously no matter where I've checked, DL have always been cheaper, or certainly near enough for me not to bother farting around swapping over. However, I eventually went through gocompare.com and ended up with Swinton Insurance at about £370, with less excess and a hire car if needed. I phoned DL back to see if they could beat it, and they couldn't. Maybe they thought because I hadn't left them in 10 years that they had me in for life

But for a £150 saving and more benefits, it was bye bye to the little red telephone and mouse on wheels.

Oh, and if you find a company that's cheaper, but you don't want to go with them, get the quote details anyway and phone Endsleigh back to see if they can beat it

You can't beat directline and tesco. Have been with tesco for 6 years. They are very good.

    Re: cheapest car insurance

for me Direct line is always a bit cheaper. Actually now that Tesco has bought out RBS I think its
gone up quite a bit. With direct line you should just re do your insurance online, I think they try
it on with the auto renewals.

I've just reinsured with Sainsbury's (esure in disguise) after several years of being with esure as Sainsbury's had a special offer on which made it cheaper to reinsure with esure via Sainsbury than with esure directly ...
(& yes, I did check with DirectLine (who were dearer for me) etc. & whilst there were a couple of companies who were slightly cheaper than Sainsbury/esure I also decided that for the small difference better the devil you know)
