As it stands here the guys in infrastructure have nothing to offer me in the 4 * quad core, so i've got 2 pcs, each one 2 * quad core to make do, with the crunchers been in the basement.
Problem is the price seams a bit high without any amazing specs. I mean 4TB of storage, is this a DB server or something?

As for a market, I am sure there is one as long as they are cheap compared to the alternatives....Although I remember an article recently about someone making a small Beowulf cluster as part of a project (due to contention for time on the university super computer) and just sandwiched a few cheap motherboards together with Core2Duo CPUs on them. If I remember correctly, it worked out a lot more efficient both in terms of raw cost and processing time.

The CX1 is NOT a server, it's a cluster. It's not one machine, it's eight. This is an important distinction when talking about it - it's not a single 16-CPU machine and can't act as one. It's useful for those wanting to run parallel Windows applications (i.e. Windows MPI apps), and as a development platform before moving onto a "real" server
However, it is NOT unique or new. What's caught attention here is the Cray name.
Tyan released their 'Typhoon' 4-node deskside cluster in 2006, for the same market.
The SiCortex SC072 offers a 12 node, 72-core-total box built from 500MHz MIPS chips. It was first talked about a year or two ago.
NEC announced their deskside vector system, the SX-8i, back in 2005
Orion Multisystems had their DS-96 box, with 96 Transmeta Efficeon chips in it, released back in 2004 or so (with the company tanking by '06)
And, whilst not deskside, Cray themselves have a rackmount equivalent - the Cray XD1, back in 2004, containing six dual-opteron nodes in a single 3U box
So it's not new, it's just a big name, and unusual due to use of Windows My First Cluster Edition

Wow. Cool DIY render-farm solution. I can imagine that could come in use for uni students.
I know the Cray was developed with Microsoft and Intel close by, but I believe it also runs RedHat...

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
