    Ghosts

Do you believe in ghosts? Any other supernatural phenomena?

I've heard 2 accounts of 'poltergeists' in as many days.

    1) - A recently deceased person was always a pain with the TV remote while he was alive - always flicking through the channels and the like. Just after he'd died (suicide), while his family were in the living room with the remote on the table, untouched... the TV just started flicking through the channels, just like Mr. Deceased would have done.

This family were close friends of one of my colleagues, and the shop I work in is situated next door to the undertakers, and the funeral procession literally went right in front of the door.

    2) - Actually inside our shop, this one. 3 colleagues have confirmed this (not me, I has cold), at 8pm every day, there is a smell of urine around one table, same as how an old man who'd wet himself would smell. Always at 8pm +/- 5 mins, no other time. Also, seeing as it's now wintery and cold, the door mysteriously closes by itself - most times it's propped open by an uneven floor when people open it wide enough.

    Anyone else had supernatural experinces?
Anyone care to give me a logical explanation, because I can't.

Personally I don't believe in them, despite having a wildly active imagination. I just can't think of any logical explanations for these experiences, I think there will be one for each though (electrical charges in the air, that sort of thing maybe?)

my great gran (101 now i think)

talks to invisible people from her past, around her...

but she asks questions and gets (correct) answers that she couldn't have known otherwise... and has full blown conversations and just zones out...

    Re: Ghosts

Nope don't believe in ghosts or similar one bit.

Everything has a logical explanation behind it, and most accounts of "ghosts" only seem to be unexplainable because the story teller does not give you (and possibly does not know) all the facts.

With 1) above that could be caused by a rogue signal from another remote (or similar device), interference from another device, a fault or similar in the remote on the table..probably many more explanations too but none of them paranormal

    2) is probably an old stain or an ammonia based cleaning agent thats being used somewhere, which either smells all the time but is only noticed at that time of day for whatever reason (probably related to the people who "confirmed" this think that its only at that time of day, so their brains ignore it at other times and amplify it at 8pm) or only smells due to something else that happens at that time of day (heating going on or off for example). The door closing itself again has many explanations, from a simple breeze to the wood expanding/contracting causing movement.

Of course all of what i've just said could be totally unrelated, and there may be better explanations, but they all seem plausible to me..much more so than paranormal activity anyway

Lots of people do believe in the paranormal though, and I view those beliefs in the same way I do any religious beliefs- people are welcome to believe things that are not logical, that is their choice and I don't and won't look down on or belittle people who think that way..but it is not something I believe in

The smell has only recently appeared, and cleaning has been carried out the same way every day for years... and one of the confirmees wasn't told about it at first, just 'go over there.' As for the door, it's metal-framed, didn't think it did the contracting/expanding business?

    Re: Ghosts

Metal doors will expand/contract just as much if not more than wooden ones, depending on the metal and the variation in temperature/humidity

The smell one could be more complex as you said, but I think my second part of the answer still holds true as a possible - if its recently appeared and the times it can be smelt can be linked in with another event (such as heating or something moving out of the way..or some aircon) then that could explain it. Don't really know though, but i'm 100% certain its nothing related to "the paranormal" Everything has an explanation, even if I don't have it all the time hah (apart from certain parts of physics which break currently accepted logic, and the results of the past 2 US elections which were totally illogical )

i voted yes too, but i really wouldn't have a clue if there is or not, but i think to rule out the possibility is a far too narrow minded view.

    Re: Ghosts

I think that there's things that people call ghosts...

But I don't believe that dead spirits rise up and run around screaming their heads off, or doing other things like that. It seems a little drastic really.

I don't believe in ghosts... but I do believe in gremlins. How else could a £1/2M piece of lab equipment suddenly and inexplicibly break to the test engineers assertions of "it broke all by itself whilst I wasn't looking" or "it was like that when I got here"....

    Re: Ghosts

When I was at college there was an experience with one of these 'beings' - shadow people. A bit freaky, I didn't know anything about them at the time but some years later (when I was going out with an American girl) and I told her the story she said "Oh, that sounds like a shadow person.."

It was probably hypnagogia but interestingly two of us experienced similar happenings around the same time on the same night on opposite sides of a corridor. I believe much less in the paranormal than I used to but that was an odd experience.

    Re: Ghosts

I really believe everything has a logical explanation, and wouldn't have vote "yes" if I hadn't seen one.

I grew up in an old Tudor house; my bedroom was accessed through a separate stairway on the first floor. When I was 12 I ran up there once to see a ghostly apparition of a female form staring out of the window - I looked at it for a maximum of 3 seconds before I sh*t a brick and scarpered.

I told my parents, who said that they heard that room was haunted from people in the village (it faces a road; people would see a form through the window I saw said apparition).

Some 16 years later (I'm long gone and my parents use the room as a guest bedroom) my sister and her husband stayed there, the following morning my brother in law asked me if my old bedroom was haunted as he'd heard a woman sobbing in the night. Assuming it was my sister he woke her up, but the sobbing continued for a minute or so more. He refuses to sleep there now.
