HELP find me a Christmas job.

As I have been out of a paying job for a while, (car crash, smacked head a bit, lost confidence in everything) I thought it best to ask if anyone has any sensible ideas for where I could get a temporary Christmas job, just so I can get my foot back in the door of the whole working thing people have to do to get money (only have £19 left)

so has anyone got ideas of the kind of places that do temp christmas jobs and what they entail?

    my only restrictions are:

    • very little, if any use of the telephone, preferably none.
    • not much contact with general public - don't like explaining things to them, i lose track of whats going on very easily, also very shy.
    • not to far from southport - not confident enough to use public transport, do have full driving license though cant afford car.

    my two previous jobs:
3 months at Office National Statistics: data input on NHS Central Register - summer 2001
3 weeks Tesco - stock replenishment assistant - christmas 1999. (hated it, got shouted at a few times)

currently at Southport Shopmobility: in the workshop repairing, re-wiring, general trying to make it look like i'm doing something'ness. also hiring out the mobility scooters to people who require them.

also did some work with animals whilst on a princess trust course. the lions at knowsley safari park are friendly, mainly in the Lake Farm section.

    so.. can any one help?

I hear there's a good delivery job prospects of travelling around the world, it's a charitable position, but you'll be well catered for, mostly with mince pies and sherry. Must be good with animals, especially reindeer. Familiarity with chimneys a must.

stroked lion on the chin - why not? it walked up to me and looked like it wanted stroking.

local places are not advertising yet, just trying to get ideas so i can go ask whichever places may do this sort of thing before they do advertise - first come, first serve kind of thing..

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

Alot of the big supermarket chains will take people on to just work in the warehouse, just gotta go along and see if there hiring atm. If you dont like Tesco, try the rest, Sainsburys, Morissons, Asda, Waitrose etc etc.

Otherwise maybe go and see what your local job centre say/can suggest? They will have a good idea of what companies in your area might have a job which will suit you.

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

    what about factory work?

    i.e. packing boxes and things.

obv, i've got no idea if there's anything like that near you... but most places do have...

also, thinking about couriers... they need warehouse staff to load parcels from one place to another, so that could be another avenue.

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

Something along the lines of what you're doing now, mending/repairing/tinkering but getting paid for it? Not sure what else you are good at repairing except scooters & PCs (bicycles..?) but repair-y type jobs tend to be 'out-the-back in a workshop' type of thing. Christmassy semi-outdoor jobs? Garden centre or similar... if you have any nearby. Anyone at shopmobility do any other work they could put a word in for you about, or any handy contacts the manager might have? Even 'odd jobs', things like dog-walking, as you're ok with lions - other stuff might come of it; this happens to a cleaner friend of mine, people offer her other types of flexible work as well (not what you are thinking ).

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

I've also done Royal Mail twice before. The money is excellent and you'll meet a lot of good people.

The first time I did it was before I went to university (the year started in February, for some reason), and I was on the 0530-1300 shift sorting letters by post code. The time flew by, there were adequate breaks, and I'd often gaze at Kate Garraway's boobs while GMTV was on it the break room. There was also voluntary overtime on weekends.

The second time I did it, I was on the 2200-0530 shift. I was also at university. I wouldn't recommend going to a lecture on Monday at 6 o clock in the evening, have it finish at 9pm, then go to work straight after, followed by another lecture at 9am the following day. After 2 weeks of that, I got a bit ill and had to pull out of the job.

Needless to say, it's a great way to put a turkey on the table!

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

Damn, I was going to suggest Royal Mail as well - 'cept work at the depot as it can work out to be more hospital hours than a postie, but it's luck of the draw.

They're always busy during Christmas, and they're always looking for staff at that period,so it's almost a guaranteed job . . . well, nobody I know that has applied for them during Christmas has got knocked back!

Re: HELP find me a Christmas job.

so basically become a postie or sort stuff for posties.. THANKS to Mr Flibbles for the link, bookmarked it - closest advertising is in liverpool or preston - both 17 miles away. but there is a sorting office round the corner from where i live.. just need to wait until they advertise.

as for warehouses - theres this http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/Inte...&ref=SOP/58128 - just posting it here so it'll remind me to call in the next few days about it.

there was also a job advertised not long ago for advanced weapons tester for the RAF - ground based testing of the weapons that they mount on the aircraft - i never would have passed the physical test though.

    _________

do currys, comet, argos advertise for christmas temp warehouse staff? they are all 1 mile away = easy to get to.
