I say steady on old chap. The thread is about a parking fine after which you have mentioned Nazis, execution and Dog Day Afternoon. Let's get things into perspective here.

The way those cars are parked, I can just see a 3 year old absent-mindedly dropping a crisp packet and walking out into the road because there is no visibility when you're little.

Laws are there for you, me and to protect those who need that bit more protection.

Re: just had a court summons!

Santa i think the problem with parking fines is thanks to the local governments.

The idea of parking restrictions is to allow free trafic flow, and stop people monopolising spaces unfairly.

These are nobel objectives, regrettably the privatised groups (good idea, if done properly) get a reward for ticketing, that alone, not improving traffic flow, not ensuring people know where they can park etc.

As such people need to fight back when people are unfairly ticketed. Concils need to focus on the adressing the needs which ticketing hopes too, not concentrate just on ticketing....

No....I've been proved wrong in a forum before (maybe this one, dunno now) and learned from a link that if a yellow line is broken anywhere along its length, then all tickets issued on it are invalid. That line is definitely, definitely not valid, no question.

I understand your point. I'm afraid I don't see this as an unfair ticketing though. I'd like to be in with the communal 'kill that mofo scheming thievin' Council' but everyone reading this knows a law has been broken. If you want to change a law, there is a process; it is not a decision you make yourself in the street. We know where that would lead...

Re: just had a court summons!

All I see a poorly maintained road marking.. If they want to fix it they might actually be able to charge people legitemately. It's the parking attendent who is at fault here, not G4Z imo. He/She should be complaining that the road markings are not valid..it would make everyone's life easier.

Also your argument about the 3 year old walking out etc.. While a valid and good argument in some circumstances the OP suggests this is a parking meter area. So that kid will be safer if the owner has paid to park there?

I sorted my last parking ticket through the post which is how stupid things like this should be sorted. Your presence in court will not really affect the only evidence that is going to be provided anyway. A decent letter and the picture should be enough for them. They are making it harder than it has to be..

I sort of agree with what santa is saying, although I haven't read all his posts...

You complain about tax etc, yet you are increasing their costs for something trivial. Therefore, taxes need to go up to cover court costs for all these trivial claims. You might "win", but the taxpayers are still losing...

If anyone really thinks that ducking and diving and wriggling in an effort to 'beat the system' is worthwhile, then right on brothers, go an' kick some 'big fat lazy establishment' ass. We all feel that way from time to time, but it makes the system what it is.

Incidentally, did anyone break a speed limit in their car today and not get caught? Yay! You won again or will you report yourself for not maintaining the law? Swings and roundabouts.

Nope, but if the road was not properly sign posted I would have exercised my own judgement as to what the speed was. The state of the line G4Z parked on.. I would argue he excersied his own judgement on whether to park there without paying or not, especially if there was no other medium of instruction.

That is another problem. But in this case, it is a yellow line. It is just that poor Northerners can't afford to paint them regularly enough... but I imagine its like that all over the North (its like 3rd world of England)... broken yellow line is the poor mans solid yellow line

Btw, condescending tone on Northerners is meant to be light hearted. I hope no one takes offence!

My judgement is different. Let's hope you're G4Z's judge .

    Everyone should be so lucky

No one could argue that a yellow line wasn't there. The point is, if the council is unwilling to maintain it then why should you respect what it used to represent, as by their own laws it no longer does.

The laws are there to protect us as well as their cash flow afterall (and fair parking etc..).

What is the point of a parking bay with a yellow line surly there is a clue in the name ?
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Well certain parking bays are free to use, even in town centres sometimes. The yellow line I assume is to suggest it isn't free... No idea really lol
