"PayPal and Bill Me Later belong together," said eBay president and chief executive John Donahoe in a statement.

"We now have a powerful combination of the two leading, complementary online payment products, each with proven benefits for consumers and online merchants."
I read the above as Paypal and Bill Me Later can't co exist so we've actually taken out yet another online payment system.

Also 1000 jobs have been axed as well, original article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7655073.stm

I wasn't aware that eBay own paypal?

I thought it was a splinter company formed by some of eBay's previous workers or vice versa.

eBay have owned Paypal for 6 years (almost to the day - October 3rd 2002)

Ebay brought Paypal a while back now.

The number of people I know who have had issues with Paypal are huge

Re: Another paypal competitor bites the dust ...

PayPal is a double edged sword. If you ship stuff without a means of online tracking, i.e. verifiable from a website, up to 6 months later PayPal can debit the value of any transaction - this can be extended to other scenarios as well.

Since PayPal is linked to your bank A/C, you're quite jammed. Therefore, I tend to save all RMSD receipts etc for at least a year and only ship via insured and traceable delivery.

Taking the paranoia a couple steps further, I do not maintain a credit card on file with PayPal either.

It still, can prove to be the easiest way to send/receive money though and far too many people rely on the system, due to the illusion of safety and security.
