    Halloween

Halloween, wtf is it all about these days??? My kids have a mope on because I said no to trick or treating again. I don't want them hastling the old folk of the village, plus as usual there'll be hoards of chavs roaring up and down in their chavwagons.

Instead there's a village party, disco at the village hall for the littlies & a BBQ. Better idea or has the Americanised version of events yet again become the norm?

    Re: Halloween

disco at the villege hall, i remeber one year on the base we where on they'd tried to ban trick or treating, instead we had parties at all of the youth clubs (i was like 8) there where still lots of sweets (thankfully the price for apple bobing was sweets, and there was the find the sweets in the flour game etc.)

so long as theres lots of sweets, costumes who will care

    Re: Halloween

its an excuse to go have fun.

Fancy dress is fun, choosing what to be, making the costume is a good activity for young children, its quite creative.

    Sweets are nice by design.

Combining the two? Bad thing? Some kids as they get older just use it as an excuse for no good, but thats not to say it can't be fun for younger kids. As for giving your neighbour kids sweets? When did giving to your neighbours seam like a bad idea?

    Re: Halloween

I think the thing at the village hall would be awesome. Get enough entertainments going and they'll forget all about it!

I'm in Amsterdam for Halloween this year, I'm sure I'll find something to scare me!

*Although I'd quite like to be here too, as there are plenty of things going on... Amsterdam it will be though.

    Re: Halloween

i never liked halloween as a kid. Didn't like dessing up and generally got quite scared being out at night with loads of other kids dressed up. Used to freak me out.

Still not keen on dressing up. Still have a problem with face paints too.....

Have got invites to do things this halloween though which makes a change, just need to see if i can get off work.

I'm with .style on this, never seen the facination. I am tempted to dress up as V (V for Vendetta) to watch people's reaction.

    Thats kinda the point.

Most stupid thing i'd ever dressed up as was a panda, in a proper full on furry outfit. It was chosen by a mate because we where choosing others costumes and all. Joke was i've never had so much attention in a night, i ended up with something nearing 30 pints bought for me (i wasn't remotely able to drink them) people where just buying them to pose for a photo.

That would make two of us on Hexus already. Though I am 50/50 about it right now. I was really going for V a month ago, but now I am tempted to go with something else.

    Re: Halloween

Mr OiD, I want to live in your village! Village parties are bomb, one might say.

For the first time ever, we are embracing the fact that children will likely come knocking on our door. We live in a nice little village, but haven't heard of a village party as of yet. So for the mean-time we are planning on having an assortment of lollipops for kids in the best costumes. If they're not in a costume, they will be turned away until they come back in a costume. Everything apart from the Swizzel sticks left over will be mine, too. Bonus.

I do believe I'm going to shut my gate and back the car up against it. I get rather grumpy about people inviting themselves onto my drive.

Of course, if there's a fire I may burn to death as the emergency services are wrecking my poor car

I'll most likely be working til 10 as it's friday, so it's of no bother to me.

Tbh, I'm surprised it hasn't been banned by the PC Brigade yet. I mean, kids of all ages going round getting sweets off strangers? Sounds highly suspicious to me.

I detest the trick or treat aspect, and won't do it.

If people want to dress up, go out and have fun, that's just fine with me. I hope they have a good time.

Just don't bang on my door in the process.
