    CustomPC Mag.....

Has anyone noticed that this mag has gone downhill badly? Its never been the best mag in the world by a long shot but I always though with age it would developed, how wrong was I!

The reviews are paper thin, their approved stuff is always out-of-date, their forum is messy and very unprofessional, their mods/admins are clueless (and spineless) and the people who run their game servers are only interested in their own clan and their own scores.

I have decided not to re-subscribe to this mag and I should be moving my folding setup over to Hexus. Its a shame as I have nearly 3 years of folding under CPC.

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

I find their reviews to be rather outdated by the time the mag hits the shelves...

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

Well that's the problem with the mags... six week lead times (sometimes) means that reviews will be comprehensively covered online by the time the mag hits the shelf.

And now netbooks are becoming cheaper and more easily available, (there's one with built-in 3G around now I think), the argument for a magazines 'go-anywhere readability' is also being eroded.

It's still nice to have a proper magazine for a bit of 'on the throne' reading...

I cancelled my CPC subscription quite some time ago. I always found the "how to" articles to be rather simplistic.

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

Granted some of the stuff which Hexus gets comes out long before the mag gets it. I have a sub, but thats only because it was a ridiculously cheap price. Its nice to have something to read when I get home.

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

Ive had my CustomPc sub for 2 years so. In that time I think the magazine has gone down hill. But I still keep it going, because I do actually enjoy having something physical to flick through, from time to time, and home, on shifts at work etc.

I also quite like the CustomPC Podcast, and would recommend it, its great to pass those long car journeys.

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

i agree that the reviews are out dated by the time they are printed, thats only to be expected when compared to the daily updates you get on websites. I still buy custom pc and pc format, but thats only really for my 1.5 hrs train journeys to london and for some bed time reading....

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

I found their hardware articles starting to go downhill stopped buying it. The same can be said for PCFormat. I bought it for years but then they completely changed it to mostly about hardware to mostly about games and little hardware. Its now also a waste of money.

    Re: CustomPC Mag.....

I got the sub for half price so £25 for the year, I thought that was reasonable if I cant get it for
that again then I wont bother to renew.
