Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7666826.stm
I think this is pretty bad really, I mean he is a multi millionaire who, when asked to give a little back to his fans (the people who make him a multi millionaire) he says no.
I can see after all these years he may get fed up with it but that’s life as a superstar and if he didn't want the attention why release new music in the first place?
Its a shame for him really but i feel sorry for his true devoted fans (they must be devoted, he can't sing for Sh*t)

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
hardly?
Why is he obliged to do that? I think its better he is honest and requests fans not to bother, rather than pays a PA to do it for him.
There are just people on the street who know nothing about him, why should he have to recipricate in any way, when you buy someones album there is no implied contract for them to corespond with you.
Instead of writing to ringo star why don't those people just join an internet dating site and talk to people they don't know there, they might actually get some happyness in their worthless lives?

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
I do have a problem with celebs who don't/won't sign. This is a little different I suppose but the principle still stands. The public put them where they are and it seems such a little thing - I know they probably have to deal with idiots on a constant basis but, frankly, tough noogies. They want to be famous and it comes with the deal (along with the fantastic money and lifestyle.)
I remember Mick Hucknall saying sometimes he will sign an autograph and sometimes he won't and that's his "Absolute right." Perhaps, but I still think it's pretty ignorant not to scribble something just because you're not in the mood.
That's my ha'peth, anyway.

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
I have to agree with Jay on this. It really sends out the wrong message just telling people there fan mail and general appreciation is unwanted.

Back on topic. There needs to be celebs that do this otherwise we won't appreciate the ones that sign their autographs on our chests with permanent markers

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
He didn't force anyone to buy his albums, they happen to like the music he has done over the years and have therefore purchased it. Why should he feel obliged to sign anything?
Personally I hate the attitude of 'you're a celebrity so you should be in touch with the public'.
Some people become celebrities through doing something they love, not because they wanted to be famous, why should they have to answer to the public?

My thoughts exactly 99Flake.

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
I view this as a smack across the face for his fan base. I'd understand if it he only signs stuff during certain periods/events but a blanket statement is rather harsh.

Too sexy to be Ringo, surely......?? ;)

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
Part of being a celeb is giving a little back to your community.... if you want to be a celeb then you have to take the rough with the smooth. I wish I could get rid of the stuff I don't want to do!

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
Do you think that maybe it is a PR thingy? Ringo is a lucky man, if he had not been fortunate enough to have been part of the Beatles we would not have heard of him at all - it is not as if he is or ever was a great musical talent (in my opinion of course).
I am sure he still gets fan mail and requests for his autograph but, seriously, can it really be to the extent that he needs to publically announce that he will not be signing any more? I wonder if he/his agent has an agenda - a new book perhaps? Or maybe this is just a man who takes himself so seriously that he announces this news as if it is of such importance.

he put it on his website, its not like he sent out a press release to Reuters is it? better that than let people carry on sending and wonder why there getting no reply

I wouldn't be surprised if they did go find someone else to worship. I know I would if I was in that situation.

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
This is how I see what he said (i'm not a fan so I couldbe wrong)
"Stop sending me things, i have had enough of you lot hassling me and I can't be bothered to keep up with your letters etc. I will no longer sign anything or even bother to read your letters, I don't want anything to do with you even though you are my fans."
ps
"I have a new album out.... go buy it!"

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
I don't blame him at all. A lot of people wanting celeb autographs just want the autograph, but on top of that, a lot of people want them knowing full well that they can get to be worth real money, especially in years to come.
It's one thing for a celeb to sign a few here and there, but how many does he get? Dozens a day? Hundreds? Who knows. And how long does it take signing them?
Finally, he's nearly 70, and has been a target for autographs since the 60's. After more than 40 years of doing it, I think he's entitled to say enough is enough.

Re: Ringo 'too busy' for autographs
It may have been better for him to have requested people stop sending.... then at a later date say that now he is getting a little bit older its time he stops signing autographs etc.
Not reading fan mail is terrible and acting like such an idiot on his video was a bad idea.
