Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
The question is how many of us have parted with money only to find that you don't get what is described, you don't get anything or you get out of pocket after a retailer sells you second hand goods, etc.?
No naming and shaming of companies unless the mods say its ok...

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I can't think that I have to be honest, certainly nothing sticks in my mind.
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I have to admit I have lost out buying something on a forum once and another time when I got ripped by a company charging me for a cancelled order
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
someone has made off with your avatar if that counts?

you can't edit the poll can you?

Don't think I've ever not gotten anything from a seller, although I have recieved the wrong product a few times...which is rather annoying when you think you're buying something quite rare.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Never (so far, touch wood). Almost though in the summer before SiM warned me :D
I'm fairly new to buying/selling on the internet, I never knew what the hell classified forums meant until I starting seeing the sale threads

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
scammed once via amazon marketplace. never again.
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
lost a few quid via ebay on a cd that never arrived...
big seller in states, and took off with alot of peoples monies...
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I replied incorrectly to the poll, the second option better fits whats happened to me. I've been 'hustled' once on this forum, thankfully that user won't be back any time soon. Never did get my money back :(

Ditto, I'm not ultra careful but I'd like to think I can spot something dodgy.
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Had not as described, but not lost any money, so no correct poll option for that :p
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
got scammed by amazon market place a few years back. some cheap asian ripoff james bond boxset £100.
in the end i brought the uk box set for £85.
still less than the RRP for both lol.
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Luckily never (touch wood),
Mostly because I only ever purchase from the major shops (amazon, play etc.) and whenever I venture onto fleabay I always check that paypal is offered and that the feedback is decent.
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
A copy of Sin City from ebay. It turned out to be a dodgy asian bootleg but the guy did refund me in the end. He claimed it was real but the chinese (?) writing all over the disc and case gave the game away really.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Overclockers took me for about £36 in postage charges once. Never again.

-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I've had 2 wireless cctv cameras sent from ebay that didnt work, got 100% back though so no...
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I bought a fake powerball off eBay, but the seller did give me a refund so I only lost out on postage
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I've never been scammed per se, although I've had a couple of items which were not quite as good as I thought they would be, and too much hassle/cost to return. Only small value, though, for anything of large value I'd have made the effort!

Poor finlay666, the only one that has been truly ripped big time

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Betting in an online casino that conveniently 'crashed' a couple of times. Luckily, onlu had a few £s in the room when it did.

haha, you sound like an addicted gambler making excuses... ;)

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
No seriously, it did.
I never made any excuses for the ks that I've lost gambling.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Ive had the "awesome shop" (hah) that is Scan take me for a ride on a faulty motherboard which still doesnt work and is not sitting in the cellar after i paid about 40 pound total sending to scan twice and also a stupidly expensive tested as not faulty fine so id consider that a big hustle maybe just me.
But tbh all company's should work like Ebuyer sending anything back ring up arrange pickup and city link come pickup and no stupid tested as not faulty stupidity if tested not faulty it is sent back simple as.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
oh and overclocker tried to scam me on here but having a brother in law detective does make threatening slightly effective so i got my money back (kept details if he rips anyone else off).
oh just read up looks like thats 4 of us then :P
am i only one that made him give me postage costs as well as my money back :P

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Scammed once via ebay. Lots of people in the same scam. :embarrassed:

There was also lambbuster and another Hexite that got done at least at the same time by the same time as me, was double selling items that didnt even exist
You live and learn tbh, I could afford it as a nice luxury extra so could live with losing the money
Did better than my old housemate though, bought an Asus gaming laptop off ebay for nearly £1000 and all he got was shredded paper in a laptop bag....I was trying so hard not to laugh when I found out as I said it looked too good to be true and was probably a scam

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?

Wish it were like that. eBuyer now do do this, I'm not sure if they charge for no fault found they only charge you for the return shipping. But they've got their process where you must explain to the tech team what you've done to rule that it is X item causing the fault etc so you don't waste their money and yours. It's still the best though.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
I once got scammed by some turd on ebay - sold me a duff Audigy 2 ZS many years ago. I learnt to be more than careful since and haven't been had since... <touch wood>

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
i've been stung twice.
Once on ebay for about £15.
Once by a major on-line retailer which nearly cost me my life (kettle lead, with transparent insulation, had a flaw in said insulation. There was no CE mark, and it was 'own brand')

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
looked at it, espesually when they didn't want to issue a recall. But it was tricky, as the computer case had screws, as such it wasn't an area of frequent access, so it was hardly open and shut case (pun intended).
In the end after a bit of hassle they replaced all the hardware (which after i'd shunted chassis ground to, i thought was rather important). Either way there off my list purely because they really didn't want to admit they had a problem with a line of theirs, one that i doubt had sold 1,000 units either.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
ok now i know its a case and own brand ive got a feeling your leaning towards ebuyer haha yes?
-
Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
Not unless paypal accusing me of scamming someone else and emptying my bank account counts. Scary solicitor got the money back along with a grovelling apology letter.
Other than that circus I've always managed to avoid scammers, but I tend to stick to the same few places nowadays(scan for comp gear, play for games etc etc), not used ebay in years, because of the paypal affair.

Re: Have you ever been hustled on the internets?
amazon market place. ordered a Sony MS PRO Duo. but when i examined it, thing was fake. so I complained, returned it for a refund.
