Has anyone been scammed on ebay just lke me

I hate those people he set me right up!!!

Last year i sold a car stereo with changer all in working order i know this because i tested it before i boxed it up,I got the money so it went out the next day,As soon as i saw the money i left a comment saying he was A++++ as he payed straight away,But i never got a comment back so after two weeks i sent him a email the next day he got back to me saying he had it installed but now it stopped working,I didn't know what to say but i said go back to where you had it installed and get them to check it out they will do it for free,I heared from him a week later saying it still didn't work fair enough i said please send me a copy of the invoice to say that you had it installed so then i know you had it done,3days later he comes back saying actually he never had it installed by a pro he did it,Thats it there is something not right lots happend over the last week then he tells me the changer doesn't work and has told me ive sent him a faulty one i told him try using the reset button he said he has done all that because he had the same model in his car but it got damaged when someone brok into his car.

Yep i can se where this is going he took it to pay pal i had to give him the money back,I got it back with the surround missing cables cut very short missing screws,Ive been scammed because it was obivious what he had done swapped his faulty one with mine,But of course i couldn't prove it.

There was alot of emails being sent the more he said things the more he just didn't sound right he would say something in one email that didn't make sense because he had said something else in another email.

So am i the only one who has been scammed like this??

Re: Has anyone been scammed on ebay just lke me

Thats what happens when you 'dance' with PayPal.

If i sell anything on Ebay, because now they MAKE you accept PayPal as a payment method, i stipulate huge terms so that people can buy with it.
Its not against Ebay regulations (yet), so its a way around it.

1. Make sure they have a 'confirmed' address.
2. Only accept PayPal for items under £15
3. Never accept PayPal if item is collected
4. Offer a discount if buyer pays via Bank Transfer or Post Order
5. Insist on a home telephone number to buyers wanting to use PayPal
6. (My favourite).....i offer to deliver the item in person if its over £100 (even though i wouldnt).

ALl these things put alot of scammers off. Not all but its a start.

Send him an email telling him you are going to small claims court unless he sorts this out within 14 days. It only costs £30 to do this and it may just scare him into relenting.

Re: Has anyone been scammed on ebay just lke me

Thats good advice

I cant use paypal any more i gave his money back straight away but he didn't get his postage cost back,When i posted it the cost was £8 he wanted £15,So thats why i cant use paypal because paypal has blocked my account and card untill i pay the £15.O and get this after he got his money back he left a comment: (Thanks for being understanding) what the hell!!! If it was the other way round i would be saying dont use this person he is a scammer!!!! in his emails he was saying i knew it was faulty so why would you be nice when you leave a comment????

Always when sending off items, take pictures or note down serial numbers as proof if it's ever been swapped. Also him cutting the wires shorter surely means he can't return it now he's messed with it? (Cut the wires and not sent all things back)

Yeah paypal are **** for stuff that they're out of their depth on. They'll always favour the buyer. Best to always stick to selling in person.

Ebay is crap now. It's just full of drop shippers and scammers.

eBay is just a flashy front, behind all it does is take monry to advertise just like you would in a newspaper. There is no protection at all to anyone.

I never buy anything over £50 on ebay any more.

The more we stop using it the better. Gay fees and stupid increases, make it not really worth selling on there anyway.

I cant stand scamming scumbags like that. Ebay has become a haven for dishonest muppets tbh.

I guess all you can do is learn from the experience.

Re: Has anyone been scammed on ebay just lke me

Can't say that I have been 'scammed' on eBay as such. I tend to take quite a lot of precautions, but after a few close calls I changed to only shipped via RMSD (with online tracking).

My use of eBay has also, for the most part, been to sell stuff going from a couple hundred pounds to a couple thousand - of course when the value goes up, I insist on a banxfer; with my trust it hasn't been a problem.

Ebuyer once sent me two items for the price of one though...
