Hellraiser has to be one of the best for me. Pin head has to be one of the scariest characters in a film. Every other bad guy had a reason for the killing usually revenge. Pinhead was just doing his job

Re: Whats your best first three horror films

I love so many Horror movies, the ones that stick in my mind the most are:

    1) Switchblade Romance - first horror movie in a long time that genuinely impressed me.

    2) Poltergeist - saw it when I was a kid and it scared the begeesus out of me and started my love of horror

    3) Re-Animator - started my love of alternative film-making, kind of the 80's equivalent of House of 1000 corpses.

I'm the same with the Hostel movies, funny horror, but not like Braindead that was trying to be funny, just so far fetched and OTT gory that it's not really scary any more.

Re: Whats your best first three horror films

1: The Shinning or Rosemary's Baby (depending on what sort of mood I'm in)
    2: Hellraiser
3: Salems Lot (the version directed by Tobe Hooper)

(to be honest I don't think I could pick a true top three as there are just so many good ones out there)
    I'm not fat and I'm not 40

Bit silly towards the end but Event Horizon is brilliant for the first hour. I just love its gritty near future setting where the tech seems plausible and the feeling of isolation seems so real. Much like the opening of the original Alien film. That sense of isolation is so absorbing.
