Just got this quarters electricity bill
And it appears that I overpayed just a little last month.
My actual meter reading as of today (for both meters) are actually lower than the estimated readings Scottish Hydro Electric gave me last quarter.
I wasn't able to check them last time as I was in Nigeria, so just payed the bills (thank god for the RBS Bill Management service or I would have had several nasty red letters to contend with then I got home).
I guess I'm not using as much electricity as I thought, which is good, I might even turn the heating up a little bit as a result :)
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
I find that. I'm using less energy than they predict.
On my bill i'm in credit by £50 or so which isn't to bad.
Hate getting my winter fuel bill though. It just seems so big.
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
I keep meaning to move to Direct Debit to save the large quarterly bills, never get round to it though. This has been going on for the last 5 years, so I can't see myself doing anything about it soon :)

Maybe you should double check that the million at the end of the repayment should really be there..
"Good h'afternoon sah, it has come to my attention that you are owed a total of 12.4million uk GBP pounds by the British Gasoline Company....."

When they overestimate and you're in credit, whose bank account does the money sit in, yours or theirs  ?

£50 in a current account is probably going to get you about a couple of pence in interest, so I see where you are coming from, but it doesn't really matter in practical terms.

Yeah, that joke (and its variations) never gets old...

Sits in theirs which is a shame but like Funkstar said it's only a couple of pence in interest.
I'm pretty sure if i wanted i could get it back somehow.
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
If you over pay enough, and your usage would take too long to use up the accumulated credit they will send you a cheque to clear it.
This has happened to both my parents and my brother when they were paying on direct debit and never checked their actual usage against the estimates for a couple of years.
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
just for the record.... this is NOT always good.
You see, they OVER estimate so that you pay MORE at the higher rate before they have price drops.
So, if there is a price drop you've paid too much for stuff you've not used. With the price of oil and fuel droppiong fast you MIGHT have overpaid!
Conversely, it's possible you''ll come out better... but BEWARE!

Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye on it.
Off i go to check my bills and see how i'm doing.
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
Thats a good point Zak, I hadn't thought of that.
However, I got a letter the other week saying my electricity and gas were going up to the tune of 25% or something and my next bill would reflect this, so if i bought those units during the last quarter at the old rate, i'm quids in as I would have been charged more at this quarters rate.
As it stands I'll also have a credit on next quarters bill too.

Quite. And a nice little earner it is too. They wouldn't allow you to be in debit for long before bumping up your payments to ensure they always owe you rather than the other way around. The pennies add up when you have say, a million customers...
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
I never pay by Direct Debit for my heating bills. Don't see why they should earn interest on my money!! However small it is (Interest!)!
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
Was owed over £100 on gas when we moved out of the last place by British Gas, cheque came through in good time so can't really complain. Also levelled out the rest of the money owed from housemates for bills...
Re: Just got this quarters electricity bill
My mother-in-law pays £200 per month for gas/electric, im sure she is being taken for a massive ride.
