Hello...
I thought I'd post a bit on this particular 'dial', as it is quite unique. Please note, that this was originally posted by 'Javileon' on the Rolex Forum @ TZ, and the photos have been taken by him as well.
"The dial is made of Gibeon meteorite that fell to earth; some speculate it was about 12,000 years ago, was discovered in a vast african desert close to Gibeon, Namibia in the early 1800's. the total fall was approximately 150 tons. Today, the known Gibeon Meteorites that have remained in Namibia are displayed in the Post Street Mall (picture) and at the museum of the Geological Survey of Namibia in Windhoek, nowadays are protected by law in Namibia"
This watch in particular is the Rolex Daytona in White Gold (WG) on leather strap. It is also available on a WG strap. The Meteorite dial is only available on the WG model of this watch. Rolex own a portion of the Gibeon meteorite, and they shave the dials out of this for a few select models.
"Many watches have visited the space, one has been on the moon, but with this, you take a chunk of space matter on your wrist."
I hope you enjoyed the photos and uniqueness of this particular dial
Cheers
Mike
