Re: We're in the pipe, five by five.

If we're talking purely action/sci-fi, then I enjoyed Transformers and War of the Worlds. As for popcorn, Killer Clowns from Outer Space is cheese-tastic. So bad it's almost good.

Also ... Quatermass & the Pit, The Quatermass Experiment and Return of the Bodysnatchers.

Rumour has it the Beeb are set to re-make Day of the Triffids....

Alien, the first one, is a classic, no arguments, but Aliens is a better action film, mainly because there is far more action in it.

    Alien is a better thriller.

Take the iconic chest burster scene from Alien, and the Alien Queen ripping Bishop apart at the end of Aliens when we all think the film has ended.

Noth classics in their own way.

I saw Sunshine for the first time the other day, I actually really liked it. Shame it wen't all Event Horizon at the end.

Alien is an awesome movie as is Blade Runner.

One of my favourite Sci-Fi's is contact. The book is the better story but overall it makes a really nice film.

But in terms of popcorn Sci-Fi I would say Back to Future.

Alien is without doubt my fave sci-fi flick, followed closely by Star Wars.

The Thing (John Carpenters with Kurt Russel) is POP CORN SCI FI ACTION and it kicks Aliens to death cos you can SEE what's going on!

Dude, Aliens grabs the Thing by it's eyes, smashes it's teeth against the wall, kicks it in the lungs, rips it's big toes out, and sets fire to that bit behind the knees that doesn't really have a name!

    Twice!

Re: We're in the pipe, five by five.

    nah..you're wrong.

The Thing is purely, 100% better than Aliens. I LOVE Aliens, but if it was on in one room and The Thing in another, you'd be sat in your Aliens room, on your own while everyone came to see the TRUTH in my Thing room

    Wake Up, Time to Die.

Blade Runner is my fav Sci-Fi, Aliens is my Fav Action/Sci-Fi. Also worth a mention is Sin City, V for Vendetta and, of course - Star Wars..

edit: The Thing wasn't even in the same league as Alien TBF, and we all know it.

Oh yes it was. It was far superior and has vastly better "re-watchability with more popcorn immediately...like now,...lets watch it again man"

It has snow, flame throwers, dogs splitting apart like banana's, blood tests with hot copper wires and blokes locked in sheds.

Aliens, by comparison has limp wristed "soldiers" with silly moustaches and butch women, trying to be hard, but eventually all dying and another bird, famous for gorillas and fog, tied into a mechanoid cos she's too weak to lift a box while she "proves her worth" to some silly people.

    No contest.

And Aliens has no sheds. None.

Dude, in a kneebows war, Aliens throws grenades down the pants of The Thing, has sexual intercourse with it's fat, ginger sister, smears cat food on it's best shoes, and LAUGHS ABOUT IT.

    Thrice.

Nobody has mentioned the obvious alternative classic...?

It even has some good one liners.
