Power Surge protection

My 4 socket power surge protector is getting dusty and a couple of sockets are getting stiff.

It would be nice to get a new surge protector with at least six sockets I could plug my electrical things into. And tomorrow being boxing day I could probably get a good deal.

So, I saw in Tesco the other day a surge protector for around £5. A lot you see in stores like Comet are around £30. I there a big difference in a £5 one compared to a £30 one? What is it you are paying for?

And can anyone recommend one? I'm not after any fancy features. Just something reliable that'll protect my PC equipment with around 6 plug sockets.

i presume comet prices things at about the same as currys, which prices the same as pcworld .... so that would be bend over and take my £15 usb cable territory.

Do it properly, get an APC Smart-UPS. They range in price:

£88 (260 watts)
£131 (390 watts)
£170 (450 watts)

... they work very well though. My 750I 450-watt (the £170 one) can deal with all my Core2 E8400+2xHDD+24" monitor and a few networky things very well with an estimated 45-minute runtime

45 mins? pffft fat lot of good that's going to do in the forthcoming apocalypse. you will need a generator and some guns to kill others for fuel. you might as well do it properly after all!

Bloody hell. That's a lot of dollar.

I've got the "fancy" one.

Plugged into it (and another extension):

PC
Xbox 360
Laptop
TV
Cable Box
Monitor
Wireless Headphone base unit
Lamp
Clock
Ipod Dock
Light above bed
Phone Charger

Course, I never have these all powered on at the same time.
