    Web Advertising

Okay, this thread has already been done here - what does web advertising pay? but it's near 4 years old! So i thought i would make a new one even though the question is similar...

Lets say for example you join a affiliate network (such as commission junction) and become an affiliate to a merchant. Most of the money earnt would be commission based right? How much revenue could you expect to make from this sort of web advertising/affiliate marketing? Now im not expecting it to be a whole lot...or if at all anything at first, but generally speaking would it be worth doing?

    Re: Web Advertising

depends on if you have the traffic to your site... and whether the traffic that you do get are likely to buy anything from those adverts... if your site is aimed at students, and your adverts are advertising brand new cars for instance, its targetting the wrong demographic and you will get no commision because of no sales...

I used Cj, but not for long, went over to goodle ads...

still not very good though, althought hey do pay out (if you remember to take the cheque in... which i didnt )

lets say for instance that i had a well promoted site targeting the right demographic, and the content of the site is relevant to the adverts...could you then see it making money in your experience? Also do you have a link to your website out of interest?

It would still depend entirely on how much traffic you got to your site and what sort of products you were advertising. It's impossible to say that you might make £X per month because it depends on so many factors.

If you're interested in affiliate marketing and you don't regularly read http://www.affiliates4u.com/ then you're a fool

It's actually something I'm playing with at the moment. CJ is extremely thorough, but Affiliate Future is probably the easiest to get up and start using.

I recommend the open-source http://www.openx.org/ for serving and tracking your ads.

One thing I will tell you though is that you will get a metric shedload of crap-all if you don't put a lot of work into doing it. There are many, many hardworking people using all the best techniques possible to get people to read their ads, it really isn't just a case of sticking a few ads on a page then sitting down whilst the cash pours in. It's like a game

possibly... as mike said really, its hard work to get a website to pay out...

    my website is www.ledzeppelinpics.com

december 2007 when it went live and i uploaded all the pictures i took at led zeppelins 1 off concert saw me hit about 60,000 unique visitors (300,000 page views) in the first month and i made $100 click-through revenue from google...

since then i havent made enough to draw another $100 out...

if i worked at it maybe i could... but this isnt my primary income and cant/wont devote much time to it...

    haha, the design is awful...

you wouldnt think i was a web developer 9-5 by looking at it...

but it gets the job done

yeah, i got payed pay per click on that website...

the ads are also run at a few of my other sites, which generally dont get as much traffic... www.ledzeppelinrock.com and www.thenewyardbirds.com

so it all mounted up across the 3 sites...
