    Gas Bill Calculation

After the cold snap (and during atm), i am trying to work out roughly how much my Gas Bill is going to be.
I am on the standard British Gas tariff.

As i only moved into the house in early December, i have not had a bill yet so i do not have the calculation to help me with this.

    I have used:
    1018 m3

If someone can supply the calcualtion (or a rough monetary cost) i would appreciate it.

    Cheers

    Re: Gas Bill Calculation

I suspect that's going to be tricky, without knowing what method the supplier uses.

Mine (British Gas) meters in "units", then converts as follows :-

units x 1.02264 (volume conversion factor)
    x 39.224 (to calorific value)
/ 3.6 (to get kilowatt hours)

They then charge a basic rate (per last bill) of 6.151 pence per kWh.

However ..... that's for the first 705 kWh of gas.

After that, the rate drops to 2.58 pence per kWh.

So, if your billing scheme is like mine, you'll need an idea of usage to gauge actual monetary cost. And I doubt that's the only way of doing it, or the only possible charging scheme.

There's also a wrinkle implied by that scheme. If you get an estimated bill for a high amount of gas, that goes over that cut-off point where rates change, pay it. If you do, you're paying the marginal kWh at 2.58p. If you get it amended, then next quarter (if you're quarterly) you'll end up paying for the same gas at 6.151p/kWh when you could have bought it at 2.58p/kWh.

I don't like paying for gas in advance, but I do enjoy the next bill when it comes in, and with gas prices as they are these days, I'll use any legal way I can to keep bills down. My last bill, incidentally, cost me a whopping £0.00p ..... and left them owing me a few quid. I love it when a plan comes together.
