A bona fide hero. No one seems to have mentioned the rest of the crew though, they got all the people off safely and onto the wings to be rescued, so I reckon they deserve a medal too.

Also don't forget the engineers that designed the plane so well that after both engines had been taken out it could still be operated.

I used to think I couldn't be an airline pilot because I didn't have the voice for it ... I guess there are a few other qualities I don't have either: piloting skills, calm under extreme pressure ...
