    Advice please: new pc

    I'll be splashing out this year on a new base unit (I'm happy with my monitor and other stuff) and would value opinion on the best I can get for my money. I do all the usual things - gaming, video editing etc and I want something tasty (cue the thread witty picture ).

    A bit of futureproofing is vital as I can't be bothered with all this upgrading lark; old stuff gets trashed or given away after a couple of years or so but whilst I have it, I want it to rock.

    What would your choice be:

    1. If money was no object;
    2. Up to £1500; and
    3. Up to £1000.

    Your choices will matter. Thanks

    Tbh i can see pc gaming getting dropped very very soon, if i was you id pick up a good video card to future proof you and move the rest over to a laptop or just use pc youve got.

    The wont be much need for high spec pcs soon enough.

    I wouldn't need to spent £1,500 or even £1,000.

    You can get a cracking PC for alot less. Aldi do a Medion PC that is highly rated for about £500. Throw in a top of the range GFX card for another £200 and you have a barnstormer in terms of performance.

    Is this a total new base unit? New case, storage and the bells and whistles?
    Or just CPU, MOBO, RAM, GPU?

    I really cant see the need in this day and age to spend £1500 on a pc, you can get a pc that will do the stuff you want to quite easily for alot less. And if you want to game buy a console lol alot cheaper. Most video cards cost same as xbox 360.

    People have been saying this since PC gaming started, yet developers keep making games.

    What do you base that on?

    No because it contradicts (IMO) with this:

    You want the best and I'm thinking i7 but then again the performance over a Core 2 setup is very little for what you'd spend. I'm saying go with a Core 2 setup for the best for your money whilst staying a bit future proof.
