Will the recession affect your valentines day?

Will it for you? is it going to spoil your orginal plans due to not having much cash because of the recession or in worse case scenario's because your made redundant?

well for me i had to cut back a little. i wanted to buy something real nice for my wife but unfortunately my cash flow is not so healthy atm plus its my wife's bday a couple of days after as well so i had to save cash for that too!

Re: Will the recession affect your valentines day?

    I have no plans.

Nothing is being sent and I expect nothing will be recieved.

And all with be right in the world. The year I get a card is the year the world will end.

Re: Will the recession affect your valentines day?

No, it won't. I don't do Valentine's day, on principle.

When I give the wife a surprise, I want it to come out of the blue and be a genuine surprise, not because there's some commercially motivated reason for splashing out on a specific day. So she knows better than to expect anything on Feb 14th, because it's the one day I make a point of not doing anything. Except for the odd occasion when I do do something precisely because she knows I won't do anything, so isn't expecting it.

Gotta keep her on her toes, you know.

Nope. The missus and I are more than a tad cynical about Valentines etc, so we just ignore it. We'll probably go out the weekend after for something to eat and maybe catch a movie, but this weekend it ain't happening.

I'm off for a romatic break with my fiance in the Cotswolds this weekend, but we managed to get the B&B for free with some vouchers we saved up - so no, it's not affecting me.

    Indeed.

Where is the romance in being herded into a busy restaurant, fleeced to pay more for a meal on their "special valentine menu" and then being "tabled turned" to move along and leave for more "sheep" to dine on the over priced fare - lovely, very romantic. Poor sheeple, have to feel sorry for them

We always find its much better to surprise each other romantically when we want to, than being commercially dictated when to do so. I know many others do as well.

Re: Will the recession affect your valentines day?

Last year I took her out for a meal, it was good.
This year I'm cooking for her (she's working til late) but I'll be using good (read:expensive) ingredients and getting flowers sent to her work etc so it won't be a cheap one.
Luckily she's a very sensible girl and know's that we are both students etc so she doesn't expect too much
