its a shame we dont do more to stop crime rather than just recording it
Im glad I will be dead by the time this all becomes the "norm" so I don't have to live in a police/monitoring state, which atm are only things we've seen in movies.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hmm...not too sure I share the same optimism, the UK is one of the highest surveillenced countries per person as it is, with CCTV developments and adoption still on a steep curve. Hardly anyone bats an eyelid when new ones go up, they're just so ubiquitous now.
Not only can they watch and hear you, some can talk back (well, they have speakers). One of my lecturers is trying to devise a game where you score points for every full rotation of the camera and making the operator say certain words. Though I see better ways to use my time, at least he's got the right idea: if they're going up, might as well have fun with them.
The stupid thing is, most of the cameras are either poorly positioned, or of such shoddy resolution as to completely fail at the task they're supposed to achieve (e.g. assisting in the conviction of criminals).

So if I was to shout in the street then I'd get a CCTV camera looking at me? Or if I was to say something in an intimidating tone of voice?
Erm... yeah... maybe they'll pick up on so much juvenile behaviour that they'll scrap the plan as a load of rubbish. Just my take. Next thing will be a CCTV camera that recognises certain behaviour and then delivers a warning as based on that. Imagine the fun that you could have with that.. trying to get it to say funny things.
Will be great!
And also, as the article doesn't cover this, what happens if two people - at opposite ends of the CCTV's viewing angle - both shout in an intimidating manner?
