    Questions to ask MSI

Sorry for the short notice, but tomorrow I'm interviewing Richard Stewart from MSI on 'Talking Shop' and I would be happy to ask questions from the HEXUS.community.

So if you've got anything you'd like to chuck at Richard please write your questions on this thread.

    Cheers, Scott.

How long until EFI and Splashtop make more of a market encroachment?

Because they made a fuss about it [EFI] saying something like "We want all our range to encompass it" not so long back and then just went quiet...

Possibly ask about is they think motherboard quality will drop due to climate change (credit crunch) to save cost... especially with the likes of Abit closing up shop.

When will we see netbooks that actually have 12 hours of battery life?

Because you see, until then, I'm not interested

As a supplement to that, is there a reason why lithium-polymer battery packs are not used more often?

From my experience with phones, li-pol batteries don't degenerate over time as quickly as li-ion and generally seem more efficient per mAh.

Ooh, one thing that has been interesting me, why did all the ATi partners switch the 4830/4850 boards from a single-slot reference cooler to dual-slot? Was the reference design mismatched to the card's thermal profile, or what? Because us SFF folks aren't too pleased about it.

How about asking for any info regarding AMD's yukon (or whatever they call it this week) platform.

Are they planning to use it or do anything special with it?

    Re: Questions to ask MSI

I'm able to avoid much of the geekiness of Hexus by sticking to a few not so techy areas - and then someone comes along and grants everyone carte blanche on the geek front, and it all goes horribly wrong.

When does MSI plan on offering support for their UK customers? I have two tickets opened since September 12th 2008 that have never been updated or responded to.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

Double up on that question. A retailer in the UK must have proper customer support.

    Re: Questions to ask MSI

Has RoHS effected their reliability? Also how does he expect that to effect long term reliability.

I was reading something in Engineering & Technology about an increase in falures due to the different characteristics of leaded vs lead free solder. lead-free solder is less flexible so solder cracking is more likely. It also requires higher temperatures to melt, so potentially more stress on components. The increased tin percentages also increases the likelyhood of tin fingers.
