    ParcelForce - The horror

So ParcelForce tried to deliver when I was out. No card was left (even though I got one from Royal Mail for another item), I only found out by checking the online tracking system. I found out the number I was meant to call (0845 number, no surprise there). I found a few few options on SayNoTo0870 I tried either took me to the wrong department, or for some odd reasons just got hanged up on. So I decided to bite the bullet and call the 0845 number - how bad can it be right?

Well, when I tried going down the 'Missed a parcel' route, and I am expected to speak to a machine through the whole process. A pointless exercise given that I am missing the card. I wanted to a person.

So I tried another option which took me to the helpdesk. The phone was answered, but all I could hear was a lady trying to explain an an unhappy customer why he can't pick up his item. After saying hello for a minutes, she just hanged up on me. I've tried twice more and each time I would just get hanged up on straight away. Furious? You bet - I knew that a driver can make a difference between getting your item or getting ninja carded, but hanging up on your customers? Now I know not to use ParcelForce ever. /End rant.

i find parcel forcebd for another reason.....

if they deliver something when your out, you have to wait 24 hours before you can pick it up

as for DHL and citylink, i never had any problems with them.

    Re: ParcelForce - The horror

As far as import duty is concerned I tend to expect it (unless the place I purchased from in question stated that they would cover it - that happened to one of my friend who was able to reclaim the fees from the seller).

The 24h thing isn't always true though. After persevering with the phone calls (and probably racking up a big phone bill) they finally picked up my call. Their delivery attempt happened before 2PM, after that they moved it to a post office where I was able to pick it up just the same day.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that they took it to a post office instead of their depot. Still, Royal Mail say the same thing when they carded me, and I was still able to pick my item up the same day (I had three deliveries yesterday - and was only in for one).

    Re: ParcelForce - The horror

We're told to put 24 hours on the card these days (I work for RM). The reason is that we usually finish the round at about 2pm, then we either take undelieverable parcels back to the sorting office (or a driver does). After that, there is usually one person whose job it is to mark up and sort the parcels for collection by customers. This can take ages, especially at busy times of the year, so that's what you're waiting for.

TBH, you could try later in the day, or the following morning, and probably get your parcel, but obviously it's more hit and miss

    Re: ParcelForce - The horror

I made sure to call before I went there (at least I was able to find a 020 number). Is there any reason why RM can't take the parcel to the nearest branch? I have 3 Post Offices each within 10-12 minutes walk. My (bigger) ParcelForce item was left in one of them, but my RM SD item was taken to another branch a good 35min walk away. I'll probably pay 50p for the privilege of having it dropped to one of my 'local branch' in the future, but i there any reason why they can't do that by default?

    Re: ParcelForce - The horror

Why complain about import duty? It's not as if you don't know about it. If you want to bring something in from overseas the government insists on it's pound of flesh. You're just narked because you haven't beaten the system and got away with it. Personally I only buy stuff from overseas if I'm happy with the price including taxes.

I feel I have to stand up for Parcel Force though. My experiences have always been positive.
We run a Kleeneze business from home and our goods are brought to us by Parcel Force. I have to say that our local people give us a very good service.

The goods always arrive on time and the driver stacks the (sometimes very heavy) boxes neatly in the garage for us.

Obviously different depots may give different quality of service but I have no complaints.

Thats nothing to do with FedEx - the ONLY fee they charge is for brokerage services to get it through customs -About £6.20 (which btw, Parcelforce charge nearly £15 for!!!)

That's your local, unfriendly customs department - and possibly poor paperwork from the shipper (mis declared shipping charges for example, WHICH are part of the purchase price when customs calculate the fee)

The saving grace is you are now exempt from duty on anything up to 150 euros instead of the previous £18, the only downside to that is you re still liable for the VAT on that...

Crusial dont make the fact you have to payimport tax very clear, you have to dig for about 30min on their site before you randomly come across it

i ordered stuff off ebay (including a £200 GPS) and NEVER payed a import tax

until i wrongfully ordered something from crusial
