You know, like the places that american police go to practice shooting, firing range or whatever its called.
Or does it just not exist here?

Not for the kind of weapons they use......
I know they do rifle shooting in a few places, like Bisley. I'm not too sure about what you'd need to enter (I went as part of a competition team when I was a cadet)
They do rifle shooting here too, have done for a longggggggg time. You do need a licence though.
Theres plenty of types of shooting you can do in the UK, examples include
Air rifles
Clay pigeon with shotguns
Practical shotgun (bit like a police range)
Muzzle loading pistol (including revolvers)
Indoor target shoot
Muzzle loading pistols (inclusing revolvers)
Outdoors target shooting (anything from 200m - over 1Km)
You can shoot at a club under close supervision wit ha qualified coach, the best place to try is at one of teh NRA open days, 2 are held at Bisley (near Aldershot), but there are others around the country. I shoot a variety of rifles with my club including pre WW2 ser4vice rifles, and modern day sniper rifles. I will grab the bisley details in a mo, just been attacked by rats in Eve.
For clarification
YOU DONT NEED A LICENSE TO START SHOOTING
you do need a license to own a rifle, at a club you shoot under supervision untill they deem you safe, then you can apply for a license.
Which bit of England you in?
The next Bisley open day is Sat 02 May.
Heres an example of one of the more extreme clubs in the UK, they specialise in longer range, larger rifles

Oooh, I would be interested in somewhere near the Birmingham or London region - I did a load of target practise while on vacation and it was bizarrely very fun. The national champion who was teaching me also was very impressed on my ability to aim! I think its my hand-eye coordination from being an artist![]()
Im a member of stourbridge rifle club....
there are many clubs around, theyre just not publicised...
if you look around on the net you will find some, or alternatively ask the police, they should let you know how to go about doing things right.
theres no handguns in this country anymore though... a real shame as my dad used to have a .357 magnum... but theres plenty of rifle, trap shotgun, clay pigeon shotgun, or what i want to get into soon, practical shotgun (youtube it)....
as i say, police will point you in the direction of your local clubs if you are interested.
Try and find out if there are any 'GUN CLUBS' in your area. We used to have one in the village here -but have not used it for years. Used to do a lot of target shooting when I was younger, guys used to say that I was a natural. Did that R.A.F. marksman badge nearly every year with no problem. I was brought up with guns though till they went 'out of favour'. You'll enjoy shooting -it's good crack.
