Pleasantly surprised with Amazon's customer service!

I ordered a new MP3 player on sunday, got my free trial of Amazon Prime so i figured i'd take advantage of the free one day delivery. The estimate was Tuesday - fair enough, i ordered it late Sunday night. Then i find out on Monday that it'd been dispatched via City-Link (oh dear), but i thought nothing of it having recieved Scan deliveries to university without a hitch before.

Come wednesday morning, the following tracker status is on the city link page (note i copied this at the time of posting, and the scheduled delivery date is still yesterday):

Current Status: The goods have been returned to the depot after an unsuccessful delivery attempt.

    Scheduled Delivery Date: 10/03/09

    Tracking History
14:55 Monday, March 9, 2009 On route to delivery depot
04:32 Tuesday, March 10, 2009 Arrived at Delivery Depot
05:09 Tuesday, March 10, 2009 Goods returned to depot
So, apparently they didn't even bother to load it onto a van, attempted to deliver it - and failed, unsurprisingly at ten past five in the morning - and returned it to a depot. Now, i understand that it's more likely that it never actually got past the sorting depot as Amazon say:

10 Mar 2009 04:32:00 AM WEDNESBURY WEST MIDLANDS GB Arrival Scan
9 Mar 2009 02:55:00 PM WEDNESBURY WEST MIDLANDS GB Departure Scan
So somehow they tried to take it to the coventry branch but didn't manage.

I dropped Amazon a polite email this morning saying that the tracking status was a bit confusing and could they find out where my parcel was, this was at 8:50. I got a reply back at 9:30 saying thanks for letting them know, and that something was definitely up and that they'd dispatch a replacement today (which they have, and is awaiting dispatch) at no extra cost.

Much impressed! Especially with the speed of the response!

Me too! Pleasantly suprised with Amazon that is.

Placed an order for a book at about 9.30pm on the Thursday evening, came home the next day and it was waiting for me. Bloody amazing .... no idea how they did it unless they have a very late postal pickup every evening. Even then that's an incredibly fast delivery.

That is good of them, I wonder if it's because you're an amazon prime member or not though?

Re: Pleasantly surprised with Amazon's customer service!

They've always been excellent for me - I had a dodgy set of Creative T40s from them which worked perfectly but had a transformer that made an irritating buzzing noise. They sent a replacement, and collected them the next day, very quick and painless.

Also, they once sent me some CDs with a textbook in the same package, which unsurprisingly smashed all of the cases, so I emailed to complain and they immediately offered a £1 refund per broken CD without no questions asked - I accepted and they issued the refund the same day.

Can't complain really, especially as both were free delivery

Re: Pleasantly surprised with Amazon's customer service!

I seems to get next-day delivery even with super saver shipping (as in 1 day pick + 1 day arrival like SCAN). Don't think Amazon Prime is really needed?

I've always been happy with amazon.
When my iPod touch went wrong they picked it up in 24hrs and within 48hrs i had a new one.

They may be good with you as your trialing Prime so they want to keep you on it.

They are definitely one of my favourite too (not that it occurs often, but they've are quick to act when I encounter issues with my order ).

Re: Pleasantly surprised with Amazon's customer service!

Prime is a good deal if you've got a family (or friends? i need to check the clause on that one). It works out to about 10-15 per person, and if you pay for one day delivery every time then over a year that's not bad if you get a lot of books, cds and things. Bear in mind you're paying for the guarantee and the same day dispatch. Most of the time for me, super saver certainly arrives the day after it's sent, but it can take 2 or even 3 days to leave the warehouse in the first place.

That said, i don't think they've done a clever thing by dropping the limit on super saver delivery to £5 - that basically spoils the point of Prime giving you delivery on anything no matter what the price is, if you imagine that the cheapest thing you're going to buy will be about that anyway..

Not had to deal with Amazon CS personally but my friend ordered a TFT screen that was supposed to come with a TV card a few years ago and it came with no TV card. They advanced dropped shipped another TFT (still with no TV card) within a couple of days of recieving his complaint.
