    Forum ignore list?

    Does anyone use this functionality anywhere?

    Not for Hexus, but another forum where I post has a user whose opinions are so stupid it burnssss and is fond of personal attacks. I'd like to hide his posts to stop them distracting me, however that forum doesn't seem set up to do this. Is there a greasemonkey script or similar method that I can use? I'm not so technical and f I google for instructions on how to do this I get a million results for specific forums.

    Also, I'm interested in people's opinions on the whole idea. Am I wrong to write-off anything someone might ever say? I don't like the idea really. However I tend to think of forums as being like babbling conversations in a pub or similar, I'm sure we've all been in pubs where we'd mute people if we could. On balance it seems a more polite way of stopping their annoying behaviour without resorting to intimidation and violence, if that functionality exists in an electronic pub why not use it? Not sure of the etiquette though. Instructions would be appreciated too

    Edit: it's a phpBB forum, not sure of the release number if that makes any difference to the technical side.

    I like the idea.

    I also came up with an idea ages ago that I think I suggested to the phpBB community:

    An option to set a user up as "universal ignore".

    Basically, an account setting so that any post they make is seen by no-one but them (and probably the administrators). So the regular users have no idea at all that the person is posting, which means the annoying person eventually gets fed up because they think they're not getting a rise out of anyone, and buggers off for pastures new

    Hehe, I believe they call that "ghosting" in vBulletin don't they? I've seen a few people have that happen to them in the past on other forums

    In vB it's called tachy goes to coventry due to some bizarre historical reason to do with the guy that developed that feature.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I think I am being dumb as I don't get it. If that happened to me, I would end up creating an alternative account and seeing if my stuff was actually getting posted?

    Why not just ban them / block IP if constant etc?

    Enlighten me Hexonia!

    Evilmunky - non registered users and the poster can see the posts, but registered users (ie those able to respond) cannot - hence they feel they are getting ignored rather than having anything done to them.

    Or at least, that is how I understand it

    Interesting......wouldn't that mean the search engine crawlers would still pick up on it?

    I am all for public lynching and releasing of offenders IP address, Home address and pets names!
