Shopping *while in* the states

Going to the states for three weeks in July/August.

Going to be staying with some family for the middle week.

Already decided on a laptop from NewEgg as i can get it delivered to the house no problem. Assuming NewEgg will let me deliver to an alternative address.

Any other suggestions of good online stores to look round? Been thinking about lenses for my Canon 350D as well, but not sure where to start looking.

It is a while till i'm going, but i'm bored so what to look and expensive toys for a while

Las Vegas for a couple of days
San Fransisco for a couple of days
Los Angeles for a coule of days
Houston for a week (where my family is)
New York for a week

Flights are payed for. Hotels in LV, SF and LA are booked on various air miles. Dad is getting our rooms in NY on his miles, hire car from SF to LA is going on my air miles.

So the only things to spend money on is eating/drinking, sight seeing and shopping

Thought you might be Houston bound, make sure and stop in at Sherlocks on Westheimer, its pretty close to the Sam Houston Toll road (inside the loop i think is the expression), i swear you will love it

i think we are staying out near Katy, can't remember where exactly, only been there once before. My cousin has spoken about going to the Katy mall, it is supposed to be one of the largest in the Houston area

get yerself into the Katy mall, at the other side of the mall from the main entrance is a skate shop (i hope its still there)

search the racks for a grey T shirt with a silhouette of a girl with a dragon wrapped around her, the full silver pic on the back.


I will owe you sooo bad if you get it for me (lost mine at a party a couple years back), hell any of those T's look great tbh.

Katy is daft on American football though, best college team in the area and so on, think John Grishams - The Bleachers.

BH Photo Video (.com) is very good for lens prices state side, and IIRC they're based in NY, but shouldn't have any problems shipping domestic to any address.

Where about's are you going to be in L.A.? If you get down to Santa Monica walk the boardwalk from the pier to Venice (it's a great stroll). But just after you get away from the pier, you'll pass a big square block of flats called The Seacastle. I lived there for four months a few years back. Say hello to it for me....

that place looks pretty cool, i'd miss it if i stayed there. I can't remember where we are staying, i didn't book it. Going to have a car while there so that should be interesting, never driven in the states before.

Oh, it's a piece of piss.....no roundabouts, and it's impossible to get lost, or take a wrong turn as you can just go round the block and back. No one ways, very few 'right turn only' etc. Just be careful 'cause the American's are some of the world's least aware drivers.

We used to go up to the outlet center out San Antonio way, was worth the drive

B&H seconded. Wouldn't shop anywhere else in the US for photography stuff, personally. I ordered some stuff before I went to see my Uncle in California. Had to scan in the card and they phoned my Uncle just to make sure. Easy peasy.

has everyone here got family in Houston? 2 of the guys at the glasgow meet did, was fun talking about the place.

To be fair, im only ever there on holiday as such, and always have a blast, i do want to move stateside at some point in my life, but i reckon i would rather live in Dallas than Houston, and possible somewhere other than TXn altogether, but would be nice to be near family (for handouts and barbecues)

How long ago were you there?

I think it was there when i was last across a couple of years ago. Never wen though, i ended up in The Galeria a couple of times though. Cool place.

I also discovered the Houston bus system. $1 when you get on no matter how far you are going, and thats if the ticket machine is working. From what i heard a lot of the drivers put the cover over the machine for the hell of it anyway because they can't be bothered with people not having $1 bills.
