So, North Korea is shooting rockets like mad. They're saying any searches of their shipping is an act of war.

South Korea has declared that the 1954 ceasefire is void.

The UN is led by a South Korean, so any UN action is a South Korean action in the mind of the North.

Therefore, this is Obama's first big test. The US needs to lay on the smackdown.

i doubt that the un will be able to more than writing letters here. i think china will be to one's laying the smack down. last thing they need is some nut bar throwing around nukes in there back yard, it's bad for business

I don't have much faith in the UN as an organisation tbh - a more hopeful turn is that the Chinese have been greatly annoyed which may change things a bit this time around. I wouldn't bet on it though..

It's a bloody mess, there's very little any other country can do about it with prompting threats of retaliation.

No, smackdown by the US is not a good plan. The US shouldn't really have anything to do with it - Russia and China need to solve this.

Not to mention they have an army that is over 1,000,000 strong. It's not great for those in Seoul either - it's in artillary range of the North.

Again why bring the US into it? China and Russia just need to sort it out, and they're probably more likely to without the US interfering.

On a serious note, if N.Korea attacks S.Korea, will China/Russia/USA get involved? Really the South Korean military probably couldn't fight blow for blow without international help.

South Korea and Japan have defence alliances with the US. They get attacked and the US is involved, no ifs buts or mabees about it.

I think the north koreans know if they really do kick off and attack the south it will be the end
of them in the end. Hopefully its just the usual posturing they do to get more money.
