PV Solar Panel, safe to disconnect?

Wondering if the PV panel can burn itself out if I disconnect it (too much power output during summer!) when the sun is right above it (P.S. Will be operating the panel at < -40'C air temperature if that is relevant). Related to a group design project I'm working on at the moment.

    Cheers

If you disconnect it, surely you have a broken circuit so it won't be a problem?

That said, why not just put a massive load on it (i.e. something with effectively infinite input impedance). The only way i can see you burning it out is if you short it, it is a solar panel - they're pretty inefficient and it would be more than hilarious if there was a safety label saying "do not use in direct sunlight" The air temp should help in stopping it from literally burning out anyway...

-40C air temp with the sun directly overhead. Erm....where is this exactly?

You lose 3 degrees per 1000ft, not that difficult

(20k feet in a temperate zone, or if it was further north, a lot less!)

    RC plane or meteo balloon?
