I only have one. I nearly have enough bits leftover from upgrading to make another PC, but don't really need another one.

My PC. Used for everything except serving. There's no point in having one PC storing MP3s, one for burning, etc

My Dad's PC. Old 400MHz crap-heap that is made up of all my old components. Works, and does it's job for my dad.

My server. Serves internet round the house, printer, website and FTP. Also a download box as it stays on 24/7.

Test rig. Old 233MHz piece of crap. Gets taken apart regularly. Has WinMe on, and is used for general messing about and testing.

Firewall / (DHCP, NAT, packet filtering and port mapping) file server, database server, web server PC... Would ideally keep the firewall as just a firewall but don't have the space / cash...

    3 at present -

Two pretty much identical PCs which my bro and I use for gaming, working whatever. Modem is in one to share the amazingly fast 56k connection.

One dodgy Pentium 60 which I just installed slackware on - buggared if I actually know how to use it though! Command prompt and I'm stuck. Intention to turn it into a DCHP server, firewall, net connection box when I can be bothererd to learn how to use Slackware or any form of Linux!

Have a 1.2ghz Thunderbird chip lying about so I may throw together a cheap as chips server some time soon.

My main rig, the one that the other lusers can go on, and the gateway.

There is also a 486DX that has Slackware on it, but it's not exactly used much. I will be getting a lappy in the coming months so that'll bring it up to 5.

My 3 eldest kids hav one each, I hav one, the wife has a laptop, as do i if i'm away on business & a fileserver. Also got an old PIII 600 as firewall. No doubt when the youngest is old enough she'll want one too. Plus a few bit's I evaluate from time-to time for work.

It takes a helluva long time to render two hours of captured VCR or Camcorder footage. And it's very CPU intensive. It's not really viable to play games on a machine that's coping with a task like that.

That's the main reason I built a second machine, to let it get on with time intensive tasks. It's an XP2600 with 1 Gb PC3200 and a couple of big Hard drives as backup to the RAID 0 main pair.

as of approx 20 mins ago i have 6!

i have my main PC which i use for just about everything, my missus has a laptop, and my bro in law just dropped off 4 old machines which could do with a bit of TLC

i'm off work at the moment (had a knee op last monday so off sick, but apart from lack of mobility am fine) so have plenty of time to fix the new 4 up & get them ready to sell....although might keep one for a server

(PS - anyone wanna buy a refurbished K6-II 450 in about a weeks time?)

/edit - got a work laptop too, but i don't think that counts since all it ever does is gather dust in the corner
