    Less spam?

Is anyone else here receiving less spam than normal?

And by less I mean, well, pretty much none.

Today there has been no real spam entering my Junk folder in Outlook, I've had a couple of false positives, but they have now been added to safe senders. Normally Outlook or my Exchange server filters out from a couple of dozen items a day to somewhere knocking on 50.

Then there is my other account that I collect via POP3, there hasn't been anything on it either.

    Very strange!

You do get spam on Gmail, tey just filter it very well for you (I've had to clear out my gmail inbox a few times when it's filled up with stuff Google hasn't filtered). As I said, Outlook and my Exchange server usually did a very good job of filtering it all out as well, I liked to go through and clear it out regularly though.

    Re: Less spam?

With my hotmail account I usually got about 4 spam e-mails a day with the EXACT same title "Abbey Bank Account - Urgent", "Paypal Account - Urgent!" every single day. No matter how many times I mark them as spam they keep coming back. Silly hotmail.

Looked today and I have the same 4 .

    Re: Less spam?

Have to admit, gmail just seems to be carrying on at the same old rate. I get approximately 100 spam emails per day, but only about 1 every couple of months gets into my inbox.

Also, I've hardly ever found a genuine message in the spam, and even when I have they tend to be newsletters, so of the spam type. I've got so confident in google's filters now that I only very occasionally have a look into the spam box, and never find anything of interest anyway.

They do provide a cracking email service, certainly in comparison to my old hotmail account which gets used about once a year these days.

But it is fairly common for emails to be delayed for a few days. One of the Scan guys mensioned this in a thread recently.

    Re: Less spam?

I rarely receive any in Outlook, although I do use Google/Yahoo/others to do the filtering for me. There's definately been a noticable drop in the amount of spam this year. Mostly blatantly obvious phishing scams and Russian/Cyrillic stuff these days - no idea what the last lot are, haven't run them through translation yet.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Ever since a couple of months ago I've gone from about 20-30 per day to 1 or 2 a week. No idea what's changed but it's very good either way

    Re: Less spam?

Didn't a couple of major spammers get shut down recently? Might explain it but I'm sure someone will soon take up the slack.

When you mean filter, do you mean one ones they send to the 'junk box' or do you mean that they still take one step further beyond that?

For me, my spam box are relatively consistent. One of my Gmail address have always hundreds of mail in the junk box (I don't even bother to clear), and it's not like I am very picky with who I give that email to. The thing is, it's my name, so probably an easy target.

My other Gmail addresses are less obvious and I hardly ever get any spam mail even in the junk box (not a daily thing). Ditto for my Yahoo. It's got about 100 in the junk box, but that's mainly stuff I can clearly identify (from TheHut, etc.). I only get like 5 or so per month of the random ones (Viagra etc.).

Ah well, had the email address a fair while (and I redirect my Uni email there), so unsurprising. Very few hit my inbox
