    4 way power abroad...

Is it possible to use a UK 4 way in the USA with 1 adapter on the end of it, rather than having to get 4 adapters...

Everything that will be plugged in will be a transformer capable of 110v-230v (think camera charger/laptop charger)...

    Is this possible?

    Help appreciated

    Re: 4 way power abroad...

The input voltage should be the same down each of the sockets as it's (surely) just a parallel circuit? (i.e. each one of those sockets in the 4-way is effectively identical to the socket in the wall, but drawing different currents for different things of course!)

    You should be fine.

I seem to remember my dad ramming a french plug into a UK 4-way once.. (no adaptor)

    Re: 4 way power abroad...

Charges of various sorts (laptop, camera, phone etc) will work on 110>240V, thus, you won't even need a transformer, as their output (taking a laptop pack as outputting the greater power, lets say 19V), will be fine on 110.

When I went out last year, I just has a 4-way, 1 UK>US adaptor, and a phone, camera, and laptop all plugged in, all fine and dandy.

The only things that wouldn't work as well out there are things that use all those 230V, kettles, hair dryers etc., which will just run at half speed. No damage will be sustained by running at a lower voltage

Edit: just realised you didn't mean you're taking a 110>240 tranformer, i.e, something that will convert the voltage up via capacitors, or however they work

    Re: 4 way power abroad...

For low power auto switching devices you will be fine. You should be aware that these devices will draw more current than they would on 240v but the extension lead should be capable of 13 amps which is ALOT of computers. (We do a small(ish) LAN at an inappropriate location which means running 20+ PCs from 2 power points).
Your biggest danger is you forgetting its only 110v and plugging in something that is not going to be happy with the lower voltage. Motors for instance will draw more current than they are designed to and may overheat if run on a lower voltage for too long.

    Re: 4 way power abroad...

I wouldn't run any 4 way with surge protection on a transformer, from memory the two devices can setup a feedback loop that blows the capaictor in the transformer. Other than that, all fine.
