6th of June- 65th anniversary of the D-DAY Landings

Just thought i would put a post up about the 65th anniversary of the D-DAY Landings! I went over to France for the 60th anniversary and had a great time there. Met a lot of veterans spending a fair few hours listening to their stories, and also keeping the small French towns pubs in profit lol I was amazed by some of the stories from these guys some being only 18 at the time!! Got me thinking would I have been brave enough to do the same- i like to think i would be!

I had planned on going over this time but it didn't work out! Nevertheless i'll be watching the d-day ceremony on tv, and at the same time thinking of those who never came home along with those who survived but had mental/physical scar.

So if you have some spare time watch bbc1 at 4.20pm or if not just take a minute to reflect on what happened all those years ago, and how we owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who took part.

They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years deny.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
    We Will Remember Them.

    Rest easy lads

My dear Dad, God Bless him, was at D-Day. Had a fair few stories from him. He was not a bragger etc. A humble guy. He did used to talk about his 'mates' etc. He was 18 when he went to war!

Pity the government don't treat the older generation who fought for our freedom in a way that befits the courage they put down for everyone. If it were me, i would increase thier pensions, give them massive reductions on heating bills etc etc etc. They deserve it.

God bless all of them. Never forgotten. Courageous and true heros.

Have a pretty good suspicion I would not have been, thus all the more reason to sit & watch today & pay my due respect.

It was quite nice watching this yesterday, quite surprised at having read the book for Pegasus bridge that i recognised the names of some of the people there.

If you ever get a chance to go over there for the anniversary DO IT!! I had a great time there! Visited all British, Canadian and American beaches and was left speechless when i saw the distance they had to run. Pegasus bridge is a must see!! Amazing to see where the gliders landed as well. While watching the events yesterday saw the pub at Pegasus bridge where myself and friends chatted to some of the vets. Planning to go back next year

Good man. You can pay no better tribute than actual participation.
