Question Ever had this problem? (banks)

I don't want this to be a rant, more to just get an idea if any one else has had this problem.

Last weekend I deposited some money at my high street bank, over the counter. Would of expected it to register in my account right away yes? Days go past and it's not there - I couldn't go back to the bank as I'm at work all week, and didn't have a spare minute during working hours to call that branch of the bank direct.

Anyway, I went there today - turns out the receipt didn't even have my actual account number or name on it had a woman's name on it (something I didn't notice straight away because I just stuck it straight in my wallet, I did glance the name a few days later, and just assumed it was the cashier). A member of staff asked me to point out the cashier who dealt with me, which I did. And then took my details and told me they would start investigating this on Monday (as they were closing).

What the hell?! Has this ever happened to anyone...they have to give my money back don't they...

F' Abbey soon to be Santander.

    ATMs are good.

You use your card, it has your identity on it. Also LLoyds credit it immeditaly be it cash or cheque.

Tell 'em to check their CCTV. It doesn't prove what you deposited but it proves you were there. Shabbey service though.

Most banks now have that machine where you can deposit money and cheques. I use that now as there tends to be a line of people at the counter :|

But no idea how they got your account mixed with someone else's! I mean last time i out money in over the counter they swipped my cra which i assume brought up my account details.

Yea, I have used to machine to deposit in the past - But Abbey's usually takes a few days to clear, and I needed the money in ASAP, had some direct debits coming out. Luckily I had some more money come in to cover those!

Re: Ever had this problem? (banks)

Both Lloyds and Natwest use debit cards for deposits, although Natwest seem to be a lot more efficient at it than Lloyds, which is why I tend to use them instead. Obviously in that situation it's much harder for anything to go wrong, but I suppose it's always possible!

Lloyds dont even give receipts when you deposit money anymore. I have always felt uneasy
about that. Maybe you get them if you ask but you shouldnt have to.

I work for Lloyds, not in a branch, but, when I pay money in, it does indeed clear instantly (cash or cheque), and you do have to ask for a reciept.

I asked for a receipt at when I paid cash into Someone elses Lloyd account, got a very curt "no" when asked why I got told "We stopped giving receipts long ago" have vowed never to bank there ever.

I'm with Halifax and the cashiers are lovely in my branch. Only mistake ever made was when took a cheque to be paid into Jon's account, and cash to be paid into mine, gave the Lady both cards and instructions, but when I got the receipt it told me that the cheque had been deposited into my account instead, managed to get it sorted instantly with a very apologetic Lady, no harm done, at least it didn't go into anyone elses account, and it could of stayed in mine but didn't know what the repercussions might of been as the cheque was in Jon's name.

HSK hope you get this sorted and get your money back

Likewise, usually when I pay cash in (Halifax) using either the counter or the very swish machine that takes it off you, it clears instantly. Sometimes I have to use a branch that doesn't have a machine and still the service is spot on.

Re: Ever had this problem? (banks)

If they are anything like the place I work for they will have to check a list of transactions processed by that person/branch/system on that day. They should be able to find out if it has been paid to someone incorrectly. If that is the case they should be able to deposit money into your account from one of their suspense accounts whilst they contact the person who has been paid incorrectly and get the money back from them.

Sometimes amounts might not be entered correctly on the system, in which case there should be a discrephancy between the amount booked on their system and money physically received that day and they should be able to sort it out by checking that.

Cash should definitely have cleared straight away so it's mainly a question of where they deposited it.

I bank with lloyds and if I've ever deposited cash it's been available that day, I always using my paying in book so I've always had a receipt (the book contains stubs the cashier stamps)

But Lloyds are no saints, they've done their fair share of messing me about, a summary is in this thread:
    http://forums.hexus.net/general-disc...ever-rant.html

They've not messed me around this year ... yet.

Re: Ever had this problem? (banks)

I once went into Natwest to deposit £30 to pay bills. The women behind the desk told me to enter my number when i put my card in and i did. She then asked me to press enter to confirm the 'transaction'. I looked at the pinpad and it said i was withdrawing £30 instead of putting it in, so i told the woman and she said sorry she must have put in the wrong thing.

I get the feeling that if i wasn't paying attention i'd have been £60 out of pocket.
